The much respected Phil Steele just commented that he expects Oklahoma to be in the final 4 of this years innaugural playoff system, yet we have some wizards on here that think we will go to their house and pull out a victory. My goodness.

No wizardry here, but Oklahoma teams do consistently underachieve. I'm not saying we are gonna walk into their house and punch them right in the mouth, but we are gonna walk into their house and punch them right in the mouth :)

That starting OL and DL was not much to lose IMO.

It don't disagree that the OL underperformed and the DL was bad. Forget what they were for a minute. Just look at the idea that we have to put together a cohesive OL that has relatively no experience and has never played together which severely impacts their ability communicate and function effectively as a unit at least for the early part of the season.

Secondly, we have no proven DTs. We're gonna have to rely on a guy who showed some potential last year coming off a knee injury, an undersized (but very strong) JUCO and a bunch of true freshmen. Our DEs should help a lot, but there you have a RS Jr who didn't play a down last year and a true Soph who got limited time last year as a "pass rushing specialist".... a JUCO and a couple of very talented freshmen ...but they're freshmen.

To me, regardless of what they're replacing, it's still a tall order. We're pretty much starting from scratch.

None of that matters in Fantasy Land

1. Okie does underachieve consistently.
2. It's because their QB's have never been as good as touted and they were too big as a team.
3. They are much younger, faster, and more athletic than they ever have been.
4. They have a better QB situation than they have had in maybe forever.
5. They were last year what we are this year.
6. This is going to be the most difficult game for the vols in a very long time.
7. When we have these kinds of games WE underachieve. We go in too tight ,too much bravado, and we aren't loose and having fun.
8. Not saying we can't, but it's going to be ONE OF THOSE GAMES, and its early in the season and it could be a season killer right off the bat.
9. If we take it...it's going to be right down the wire, maybe multiple over times and it will be one of the best games of the season.

Right now we have a walkon starting at left tackle....not good....we saw how playing a bunch of walk ins worked for us last year.

5 TD passes from Fergy and Hurd/Lane/Scott getting 4 Rushing TDs and 2 50+ yard FGs from Medley, 5 sacks, 3 ints, 2 fumble recoveries...I think that will be enough to tame the Sooners, just keep Toby Keith off the field.

True, but we have some returning players on the DL that can and will contribute. While our OL has not played together, they have been in the system a year with the exception of Blair and Thomas. However it is not unheard of to have Freshman contribute. It is not like we are fielding a team of complete Freshmen.

Not arguing, just discussing. But who are the returning DTs that will contribute? Saulsberry was showing some good signs last before he suffered a major knee injury....we'll have to see how he looks this fall after missing the Spring. Jordan Williams is being moved to DT because he wasn't cutting it at DE, but he's never played the position before. Jason Carr is rumored to be moving to OL because he's struggled at DT. O'Brien evidently had a poor Spring and although he gives great effort, just isn't talented enough. Who else is there?

I think we have a great, not good, but great crop of freshmen DEs and DTs coming in. But it's a dangerous spot to be in to have to rely on multiple freshmen as major contributors, which is where we are.

OU lost a lot of senior starters from last year. UT has a good shot of pulling out a win.

If you show up, you have "a" shot, but "good" shot, well not so sure....

This is why so many people walk around all the time dissapointed and dejected.... Expectations have to be measured and realistic...

OU is constantly picked in the preseason top 5 it seems.

That said, the Bama game was their first time of exceeding expectations that I can recall in recent history.

Big game Bob showed up for Bam. I quite enjoyed that game.

There's a reason you play the game. No one knows whats going to happen against OU. They have definitely lost games they should've won before. If we win the turnover battle it could go down to the wire then all bets are off.

I don't think we will go to OU and win but year in and out they underachieve. Their QB looked horrific in their spring game and the one that did play well that transferred from TT can't even play. Think too many are gonna base it off what they did to an Ala team that had no motivation for that game. I think Ala is at the playing for a NC every year mode and any other bowl game is a let down. That's happened several times to Saban Coached teams. I would bet if Ala/OU was the NC game that Ala probably beats the brakes off them. And I hate Ala with a passion and hope they lose every game.

Don't make excuses for Bama. They were plenty motivated and got whipped. They aren't invincible. Screw Bama.

Must be nice not having to worry about getting your team getting pumped for the postseason.

What are you chiming in about? I am aware of our recent absence from post season football. Are you going to say your team doesn't care about playing on national television in a BCS bowl game and just can't get motivated for it? That excuse is BS. Oklahoma beat Bama. It is what it is. We are where we are but I am not making excuses. We have been in shambles since the Fulmer firing and weren't exactly great just prior to that.

I think that we will give them fits. They did get beat by Texas last year who lost to Ole Miss but they did beat Alabama but then again so did Utah once.

I'm not really interested in a long discussion about how much a UT fan enjoys watching Alabama lose a bowl game.

No one is talking about a long discussion. If you're going to make a dig at our lack of post season play, at least make it a good one.

If you're going to troll, try harder.

I gave the response that the comments deserved. I'm not going to try hard if no one else is.
