I expect us to hang 'round for the first half, keep it close, but OU to pull away with more experienced depth throughout their roster in the second half. 38-20 OU.

Realistically it could be worse. We will have a lot of frosh playing against their quick offense. If we start to get confused it can snowball quickly. Prolly one if the toughest teams that we could play with us being so young. I mean we could be starting 2 frosh in the secondary. That's a lot for rookies.

It's 0-0 right now and I don't give up - especially this far before kickoff...

They get to put 11 players on the field at a time...and so do we...

GBO!

The much respected Phil Steele just commented that he expects Oklahoma to be in the final 4 of this years innaugural playoff system, yet we have some wizards on here that think we will go to their house and pull out a victory. My goodness.

Who the :censored: cares what Phil Steele says anyways?

And so will UTC when they come to Knoxville...just sayin'.

With that, I'm looking forward to what the team has when they go to Norman.

Realistically, it will be much worse. I see the final score being something like 52-20...I hope I'm wrong and I hope this year is different, but judging by about the last 7 years, we aren't ready to compete in these types of games. As I said though, I really hope I'm wrong.

If Oklahoma and Alabama both get to the 4 team playoff, I don't see UT doesn't end the year with the most difficult schedule in college football.

Well I for one will be at the game!! Part of my family is season ticket holders at OU. I am very happy about the match up. It will be a good game and I think we will have a chance. I am on the "Worley Waggon" (wagon is kinda of a pun with the whole sooner thing.) right now and I think if he plays like he did in a few games last year we will have a serious chance. We just got the stop the big plays on D. Can't wait to see all the Orange and White flood into Norman.. The Koolaid is good just so you know..

I expect UGA to be near the playoff too.

Can you explain to me what the last 7 years necessarily have to do with this fall? The program has more talent now, correct? Young but talented... and about that youth. If your need and goal is "culture change", do you expect that to go better with guys who either weren't starters in the old culture or weren't part of it at all?

If Jones is the guy then that culture change, new attitude, and new talent shouldn't let UT be beaten like a 1-11 Kansas team or a 3-9 Tulsa team. At some point, the combination of coaching and talent makes you at least somewhat competitive even against the elite teams. OU's largest margin of victory last year against a team that finished with a winning record was 14. The Vols should be able to keep the thing respectable.

I want to believe that Butch will have this team prepared to beat Oklahoma...but I felt the same last year when we played Oregon. I have no clue if the turnaround happens this season, but understand that I want it just as bad as anyone. I've been following UT football since 2004 (sophomore year of HS), and since 2004, we haven't won too many of these big games. Now I'm not sure how old you are (with 22k posts, I'm assuming you're older than me, OR you're a twenty-something year old who still lives with his mom and surfs around on the web all day) but I'm sure you're old enough to remember UT in all it's glory, which is why you have more faith than I do that UT can win this game. Because since 2004, we've had 6 losing seasons. So excuse me if I'm still not convinced that we're "back", or even close. But trust me, I'm just as ready for it as everyone else is 😎

We need at least one more year of building on defense before we compete with even average teams. It was an awfully young and inexperienced team that sliced the D apart in the Spring Game.

think what a big strong ol will do to our defence.

I am really excited about our future, but you're right. We have a contingent of fans setting themselves up for amazing disappointment next year. We are replacing both lines, will be playing a ton of freshman, and still have no idea who the QB will be. On top of that, we've screwed ourselves yet again with a schedule which includes a potential top 5 out of conference game. Making a bowl will be a tremendous achievement this year. Better years will come, but next year ain't it.

I am not pumping sunshine, but even with our OL and DL inexperience I believe overall we will see a better team on the field this year. Last year our defense was slow and could not set the edge. This year with Maggit and Vereen at end I think we will fair much better. Our defense between the tackles last year wasn't too bad between the tackles on power plays but couldn't respond to draws and delayed counters because of lack of speed . We also played without having any kind of a pass rush. Our secondary was abysmal with the exception of Randolph and Sutton. Our nickel back play was terrible and maybe Coleman will fair better there than at corner. Last year when we were blown out by Oregon their team speed and especially Mariota was the main reason. in the O&W game our 1's on defense weren't that bad considering they were missing Randolph, and Saulsberry, plus Maggitt and AJ didn't play that much, the big give ups was a lack of tackling technique I believe that can be fixed with the proper emphasis.. On offense there was no comparison to last year, all the QB's were much more polished, and North, Pearson, Croom, and Malone are going to be a handful for any secondary. Plus this year we will actually have tight ends, last years that was an option that was sorely missing. The running backs will be at least as good as last year with more versatility to open up the play book. Big questions are the safety opposite Randolph, the 3rd linebacker/end in our base defense , corner opposite Sutton, and LG on offense. Our special teams should be much improved with the addition of speed. I know we are young but we don't have to be playing in the NC game, but be just good enough to compete in our tough games and win 6 to get to a bowl. I think that we can do that . That said I think we will probably lose to Oklahoma by less than 14 points even with all our youth and recent history.

Y'all don't understand Oklahoma. All their chokes - literally all of them - under Stoops have been on the road. Stoops has lost 5 games in Norman, ever. And he's definitely not going to lose in Norman to an SEC team. He's going to talk s*** all spring, all summer, during the game, and after the game, about how overrated the SEC is, and use the overhyped SEC story to motivate that team to humiliate Tennessee. They probably have no idea who their other non conference opponents even are at this point, because this is the only game they have circled. Combine that with UT being basically all sophs and freshmen, and this will be way ugly. I expect OU to look sloppy against La Tech, maybe win by 14, and then take two weeks off, come back and blow UT sky high. Tennessee might score 14, 17 tops if they get some turnovers, but something like 47-10 OU seems more realistic.

Thanks for getting us pumped for the game lol
