You act like he wouldn’t have gotten drafted and never had an opportunity to pitch in the majors. He would have had the same opportunity. You can’t teach what he has at his disposal. He would’ve been dominant in the minors and been called up to start as a September call up. Yeah his MLB time would’ve been delayed by a few months but he still would’ve made any MLB roster this year. And more than likely he would be pitching for a better organization with a better chance to win a championship.
No way he’s a 1st round pick If he stayed at AFA. Nor would he have signed for $9.3 M and been 1st overall pick and starting in MLB if he had stayed at the Air Force Academy.

He transferred based on the advice of his head coach and his parents so he could focus on his development and baseball. 99% of players and their families would have done the same based on his projections.

The easiest part of a service member at the Academies are sports games and practices. Would you be okay with his decision if he‘d transferred to TN, and propelled TN to a NC in 23?

I stand corrected I looked it up and David Robinson did his two year term after graduation from Naval Academy. Was #1 draft pick in 1987 by Spurs and joined the team in 1989... Napoleon McCallum done the same thing in football. He wasnt a #1 draft pick but reported to Raiders after his two year term was fulfilled...
