Ole Miss at Memphis

Since we were talking about memphis, they are close to a lock f playoffs if they go 13-0 w games left at undefeated and ranked temple and houston. Crazy but legit scenario. Same could be said f temple...blowout win vs penn st already, and play nd at home in a couple wks with a similar chance at victory to tigers yday...maybe 7-10 point dog.

Here's a little help for you. What you wrote here is an example of transitive.

Comparing us and Toledo based on play vs common opponent Arkansas is the exact same as you comparing us and Memphis based on play vs common opponent BGSU.

He, tongue in cheek, implies Toledo would beat us. You imply we had have no problem with Memphis. I fail to see any difference.

I don't think they have a shot honestly. The only way they might get a sniff is if of the best Power 5/ND candidates, 2 of the spots would be taken by a team with 2 losses. Meaning say the SEC champion is undefeated or just 1 loss, and the Big 12 champion is undefeated or 1 loss, and then ND and the best teams from the ACC, Pac 12, and Big 10 all have 2 losses. Even then it would a stretch.

I just don't see a scenario happening that allows that. Memphis would have to had upset another higher profile Power 5 team.

The difference is when you make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich the one on top depends on which way you lay the sandwich down. You can't argue with stupid. You just just have to smile and offer a smirked look on your face.

To compare common opponents is ridiculous. Every game has game changing moments that may not occur in another game. Doubt Toledo beats Arkansas 2 out of 10 times they play. Doubt Arkansas beats Tennessee 4 out of 10 times we play. But I would guarantee we beat Toledo 10 out of 10 times.

They won't be going to the playoffs. They could play in a NY6 bowl, though.

They will have won 20 straight games, will have beaten by 2 td's the team bama lost to at home (which lots of folks will find compelling) and likely will have beaten 3 ranked teams and the mac champ...there will be enormous pressure not to exclude memphis were they to get to 13-0..to say "no shot"? Really? At the very least it would be a close call.

Well, please help my simple mind.

UT played BG.
Memphis played BG.

Analysis of a UT v Memphis game based on those results = not transitive.

UT played Arkansas.
Toledo played Arkansas.

Analysis of a UT v Toledo game = transitive.

This is what you've claimed here. Please elaborate so I can understand and thus justify my degree.
The attempt to change the subject by bringing in other teams speaks volumes. The statement was Memphis was better than UT because a coach of a team both played said they were. The COMPARRISON of that common opponent was then looked at. Once the statement of the BG coach was shown to be stupid the attempt to change subject was attempted.
Nice try

Memphis could go 13-0 and they STILL will not get a playoff spot...no way...Don't forget they beat an Ole Miss team that was utterly destroyed by Florida...never even a game...not at all...and if you don't think Laremy Tunsil and Robert Nkemdicke being out didn't make a huge difference then you'd be wrong.... and as for the other teams they play...come on man...

There's four games on UT's schedule I would swap for Memphis right now and ask no questions...

Conveniently left out that same team was dismantled, destroyed by a Florida Gators team that was beaten by LSU...and Georgia may beat that same Gator team...

Haha I love it. When we beat Bowling Green the are a big win, but when Memphis goes on the road and beats them it's meaningless. Memphis beat a team much better than Georgia today, in MUCH more convincing fashion. The stupidity of some of our fans is astounding.

Correct

The subject was using common opponents to analyze a potential match up. You raised it. It's flawed. You've been given 2 examples of how it is flawed and agreed with one. Yet, you stick to your guns.

You resorted to ridicule. Now you've gone to deflecting by saying posters are deflecting.

*comparison (stop sullying my degree)

No. Not at all. Read that post again and you will know what we were discussing. The idiotic statement by the BG coach. And it was idiotic.

When Ole Miss ends up 8-4 or worse, nobody will care.

Lol I don't remember ANYONE calling beating BG a big win. In fact there was knit picking by the bashers.

So no, not correct.

Then add "memory problems" to the list of things wrong with you. There were in fact quite a few calling it a big win, especially after BG beat the piss out of Maryland.

...and I noticed you left out their game vs bama..that seems weird.

I would take even money that 13-0 mem would be in..but what kind of odds you think memphis would have at 13-0 of getting in...in your opinion?

Like I said, it would take several 2 loss Power 5 champs. There's no way an undefeated Memphis is getting in over a 1 loss Power 5 conference champion.
