Bobby Johnson got to 7, and that was without a I-AA team and the worst UT team in decades on the schedule. I don't know if people realize this, but we've been through these "OH MY GOD VANDY'S GETTING FRISKY!!!" episodes before. So far the only differences are that A) UT happens to be awful at the same time, and B) Vandy's coach is a chesty, relentless self-promoter who gets a lot of air time.
Note that I am not saying that he can't coach; I'm merely saying that I'd like to see one (1) good win on his resume before I'm willing to jump on his knob like all the rest of you guys.
I'm not arguing that Bobby Johnson was any good. Or that Woody Widenhofer was any good. Or that Gerry DiNardo was any good, or that George MacIntyre was. I am arguing that thus far, once you get past the chest-pounding and marketing stuff, James Franklin's actual on-the-field record is not yet significantly more impressive than what's been done at Vandy before.
If Franklin goes bowling this year, that will be three years bowling in a row. That's a big deal at Vandy. However, I see only two options for Franklin 1) he keeps winning and gets a big time job or 2) he starts losing and eventually gets fired after raising expectations. So, either way, Vandy will go back to being Vandy at some point.
