My point is that you said I was free to assume, but said Joevol's viewpoint didn't need defending because it was a religious response. In my point of view - his whole argument is a large assumption.

The above is a very fair statement... From your perspective his argument is an assumption. My assumption is that his perspective was based more on a personal belief than an assumption. There is a difference between the two, and from what I read it didn't seem that he was trying to impose his belief on anyone... Just stating what it was.
