Once again Tennessee proves why they'll never be a basketball school

UCLA, North Carolina, Kansas, Duke, Kentucky, Indiana, Georgetown, Memphis.........I can think of 8 until I would put Florida....after 9 though the list really becomes who you like more out of all the 1 Championship teams.

Thanks for the props, but come on. No way Memphis is ahead of Florida. Georgetown has 1 NC, 2 RU, and a FF. Body of work is less than Florida (2 NC, 1 RU, FF).

I would say Mich. St and Louisville should be there instead of Gtown and Memphis. Then Florida. Either way, they are 9th according to you. In earlier post, you defined an Elite Program as a Top 10.

Florida is on the borderline top 10... but I'd have them around 12-14 I think.. but highly debatable.

I would rather face the truth/reality about our team than lie to myself. As it is "Streetballers with no chemistry" comes to mind, to quote a fellow Vol fan I spoke to earlier in the day.

I think Pearl has a decent record against KY which is an elite program. Bball is a tournament sport so I'm holding off ripping Pearl until tourney time. Each of the past 3 yrs we've had teams that overachieved in reg season and underachieved in tourney. I'm just hoping for the opposite this year.

I love this debate, and it depends on whether you take the long view or a more recent one. Florida certainly is the top 2 or 3 program this decade (along with UConn and UNC) -- possibly the best. Before that (pre-Billy D), they weren't in the top 20 programs. It's hard to say over time if they're a top 10 program.

During the past 30 years or so, I'd put the following schools ahead of Florida: Indiana, Michigan State, Kansas, Kentucky, UNC, Duke, Louisville, UCLA, Georgetown, and UConn -- and probably Arizona, UNLV, Illinois and Syracuse as well.

God No. I'm so tired of people in Champaign acting like they are on some plateu. They have done nothing but win a few Big Ten titles, had 1 good season with Bill Self Recruits. And they have been a stepping stone program for Mid Major level Coaches. (The only reason Weber hasn't used it as a stepping stone has been the lack of production because he is a terrible recruiter). Putting them top 20 or even ahead of Florida is a Joke. Even without the past 5 years of Florida's program they are still ahead of Illinois.

I guess you're going to explain why Lon Kruger left Gainesville shortly after going to the Final Four to take the Illinois job.

He left UF after a 12-16 season. The final four season was the only good season he had at UF. It wasn't the case of an elite coach leaving to go from UF to Ill.

That's exactly what it was. If you're going to try and tell me Lon Kruger isn't an elite coach, your defense of Bruce Pearl makes far more sense.

I'm just going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you're ignorant of Kruger's work at Pan American and Kansas State. He left Florida for a simple reason: Illinois is a better job than Florida.

Even though he had a sub .500 record at Pan American the job he did with them his last year there was remarkable.

As a Hawks fan I am still disappointed that did not work out for Kruger. He is a great coach. I think that whole promising season ticket holders their money back, if the Hawks missed the playoffs did him in....the state of the franchise at that time also contributed.

Pan American is the single worst job in America.

Pearl's record is vastly better than Kruger and he's not an elite coach either.
That's laughable. How many Elite Eights or Final Fours has Pearl been to? Kruger took over a Florida team that won 7 games and had them in the Final Four in his fourth year. Let's see where Saint Bruce's fourth year ends up.

Bill Self did great things there, but they had plenty of good seasons under Lou Henson before that to warrant putting them ahead of Florida.

Florida has been relevant for 14 years. Illinois has been good more often than not for the last 50.

You're right. All final 4 and elite 8 coaches are better than Pearl. Just look John Brady and Stan Heath.

Those guys made it to those rounds multiple times? Nope. However, they have done it more often than Bruce Pearl.
