Once again Tennessee proves why they'll never be a basketball school

You could feel it last year after we beat Memphis in their place then lost to Vanderbilt that as a team they had peaked. Team sports are about a hunger to win, who wants it more if you will. I would love to see this team find its identity about 2/3 through the season and begin to excel around SEC tournament time and ride that into the NCAA. But to do that we have to have leadership and a couple players that play with a chip on their shoulders. Each of the last 3 years we have went into the NCAA tourney with a fairly early loss in the SEC tournament. Lets peak in MARCH!!!

Yes, that would be good!!!! I noticed myself. I am not saying that in the game against Kansas there wasn't obvious laziness and too much individuality.... there was. That is where Pearl needs to step in and fix like Pitino telling Sosa he needed to transfer one day prior to the UK game. See what happened. When there is struggles, that is where a coach shows what he is made of. Like him or not, he's still I think the best thing for UT!!!

BP is a great coach. I think his problem is he may be too emotional about and place too much emphasis on certain games (i.e. Memphis, UK, Fl). When the kids succeed, they actually think they have accomplished the ultimate goal. That is the difference between Cal and BP. Cal sees all games (whether SMU or UT) as a building block to the ultimate goal - getting ready for March.

I agree. But this will get better as we progress as a program. The last few years all BP could talk about is how winning the SEC championship was groundbreaking, being ranked No. 1 in the polls for the first time and making it to a couple of sweet 16's. Well not much talk of that from him this year. Look on Catspause forums, 90% of posters assume their team will lose to us in TBA. Winning big road games, conference championships and getting to elite 8's and final fours hopefully will become been there done that scenarios making it easier to peak later in the season.

If a bus is on the sidewalks, you won't be the only one with a problem. Hang around. This is easily the best section of the board for spirited debate these days.

That's because the majority of the people in this part of the board are the only ones who truly care about college basketball/UT basketball. To a lot of people football season doesn't end until February. And Basketball season doesn't start until late February.

What a difference a year makes... I just noticed the first similar thread listed below, and the guy who started it.

I think Bruce Pearl has taken the necessary steps to create the buzz around UT basketball...and I applaud him for that. It was needed...

What I want to see now is coaching. I am not sold on Pearl's in-game coaching. It borders along the
ridiculous line at times.

Also I would love to see Steve Forbes live up to this defensive guru title he has been given by some... Or at least recruit some kids that WILL play defense.

And I'm late to the convo...but no one in their right mind can say at this point in his career Bruce Pearl is anywhere close to elite. And he isn't close to Kruger either...
