Onside kick

That's one way of looking at it.

He's giving future opponents stuff to try and prepare for and have a mental "overload" on the field

This is the nature of Heupel Philosophy.
We could never kick and onside kick against Kent State and still beat them by 73 points.

That kick was:
- to keep his team engaged
- give much better opponents in the future something to worry about.

Wasn’t necessary and believe we’ll be subject to a lot of criticism for doing it.
We're criticized for everything we do . We don't play well -we suck . We play well - we haven't played anybody . We practice running our offense using wrinkles we normally wouldn't get to in a live game - we're classless. F*** these whiny reddit level b*tches. All they do is find something to criticize.

It’s not just the Reddit posters. There’s a thing call polls…. One by coaches and one by sportswriters and non coaches. Very few of either see the games but read about events like this which affects their opinions. Although I didn’t know about the way they lined up my impression was that it was “piling on” and I bet there are many who share that sentiment unless they know the whole story. The polls are a beauty contest whether we like it or not.

They reward teams that pile on for sure

No you're absolutely right that we'll face some criticism for it.

I’d much rather a team continue playing against me if I’m getting blown out. It’s more embarrassing to me if you think I suck so much you should quit trying. Kent State lines up 15 yards off the ball, we did what a team should do in that situation.

It's classless. Sure. But, the very fact that we have a coach who doesn't give a f*** about what others think of him is bada**!! He is going to do things his way and step on the other teans neck. He is teaching his players how to be ruthless and to set the standard.

Also, The kickers and special teams put time into their prep also. And Heupel would rather give them a chance, just like the 2nd and 3rd teamers, to showcase theur ability. And it was a perfectly placed kick might I add.
It’s not that. It’s an automatic thing that the kicker can kick onsides if they line up like that. Like other posters have said we did them a favor by putting that on film. They had zero chance in this game but in other closer games that could be the difference between a win and a loss. I’m not sure Wtf they were thinking by lining up like that.

I don't care about the onside kick or even the calling timeouts in the first half to get the ball back. However, I hope we don't run a hurry up offense all second half to put up 100.
What the hell does that even mean? Do you know anything about football?

The problem is you didn’t even see the full play. Yet made a thread criticizing the coach and team for doing what they should’ve done.

Great film study but poor execution. That kick went way to far and had no bounce. Most teams we play would have pounced on that. Sends a message to every team we play though....better make sure you examine everything you do for weaknesses.
Wait who’s side you on?

Watch me not care.

Kent was a practice at game speed. Better to practice this when you don't need it than to do it the first time against an SEC foe. I've adopted the Tom Osborne philosophy: if you don't want Tennessee to beat you by 70, don't let Tennessee beat you by 70.

Yeah, I just rewatched that and our kicking team wasn’t even fully aware that was what was coming. The recovery was from behind the “returner” who received the kick. He should have had it, but I’m not sure the Flashes have even practiced this year, so an onside kick was probably a new concept to them.
I told my wife at the time that we’d catch heat for that but we just wanted to practice it, but after watching it again, I realize that it wasn’t the call from the HBC.
