Orange Bowl Opt Outs?

Exactly. I'm glad I'm not in Hyatt's shoes. He's so close to breaking a big UT record, but he's being projected as a fringe late first/early 2nd round pick. If he plays and gets hurt, that blows up. If I were his parents, I would be incredibly torn as to the advice I would be giving him. Maybe they can talk to the coaches and get him the record and get him out. It's truly incredible the season he had. It goes to show you what personal accountability and insanely hard work will do for a player. Did anybody have any idea that he would be in the first round of any 2023 mocks just 3 months ago? In this day and age, you have to strike while the iron is hot.
I don't think this bowl game is being played for Hyatt's benefit.

Well, uh... Hooker won't be playing.

Source? Wiltfong tip?

And I could also see Tillman choosing to play in the Orange Bowl to get another big game on film for NFL teams to check out.

prime time game w/ all nfl scouts watching..could improve the draft status.

So so terrible........................If our best 4 or 5 players are not going to play why even go ??? Sad day in college football. Let me give my opinion on opting out. First of all when you sign a contract with any company to work for them , that includes all programs. Why not football................if you sign a contract to play football that means exactly what it says. Play until the games are over for the year. Just my opinion and I respect yours.

There's regular season and then there's post season. You're only scheduled for 12 games. As far as I'm concerned if you're not playing in the P/O and entering the draft you've done your job.
Bowls are now just practice and exhibition games except for the smaller schools, that's all they have to play for. Time to see what you have at other positions.

A NY6 bowl is absolutely a better opportunity to showcase your skills than playing in a blowout against Vandy 🤦🏻‍♂️

Good point.
You may be right about Shuler, but as you said, wasn’t an option back then.
Peyton was also financially secure. People getting mad at some of these kids who have a ton of money on the line, for wanting to prepare for the next step, are crazy. Look, I am all for “the team” and all that, but getting hurt or making an injury worse can cost some of these guys a lot of money and the chance to take care of Momma and family. I’m not going to shake my fist at that.

Why does an injury on December 30th hurt their future more than one on November 30th?

Not shaking my fist at anyone, just an extremely flawed logic. Conversely this game might move you up a few spots. I’d find it hard to believe gamefilm against Vandy carry’s the same weight as it does against a top 10 opponent.

I am probably one of the biggest Hyatt fans there is these days. But, people need to pump the brakes. Hyatt is a one-trick pony and its a really good and valuable trick but he is still very limited. He is a deep threat.. period. He is not a great route runner, does not have insane hands, and not that great on getting separation or very good in space. He takes the top off a defense. Honestly he probably goes mid second round unless there is a big run on WR's or some specific team falls in love with him end of the first round. He is not a complete WR at this point. At least not on tape. UT asks him to do a very specific thing and he excels at that but the ball rarely goes to him outside of deep routes and comebacks.

I know it won't be a popular thing to say but its true. I think he should go to the draft this season because the chances of him improving on this season next year are slim. After what happened with Tillman id shut it down and wait for the draft also. I am not risking millions of dollars for a chance at some record that will get broken soon enough anyway with this coaching staff in place.

Can't players buy a permanent total disability (PTD) insurance policy with a loss-of-value (LOV) rider that would payout big $$ if they get hurt in the Bowl game?

Vandy was a reg season scheduled game. As far as I'm concerned he finished the season. If you're 1-2 rounder, go get ready for the Combine and ProDays etc

Tillman still didn't look 100%, his best bet is continue to rehab and show out at the Combine and whatever other NFL camps he'll attend.

I do t disagree, I’d think a player opting out of a bowl would have done the same for Vandy, maybe it’s the optics of it

If I was him I'd catch the coof.

What gm would take a player that can’t risk it for his team in playoffs ?
when can they risk it ? If it’s all about the benjamins, ain’t no love for the game and team…..don’t sound like a winner . Just my 2 cents. What Would Jajuan Jennings do ? That would be the type to build a team with

Yep. He is only good enough to be a first team All SEC WR and projected to be a first round draft pick. He is also still recovering from his injury when he stepped on a Ref's ankle against USC. Besides, we have really good receivers waiting in the wings if our QBs can get the ball close enough for it the be caught.
