Orange Bowl Opt Outs?

Good point.
You may be right about Shuler, but as you said, wasn’t an option back then.
Peyton was also financially secure. People getting mad at some of these kids who have a ton of money on the line, for wanting to prepare for the next step, are crazy. Look, I am all for “the team” and all that, but getting hurt or making an injury worse can cost some of these guys a lot of money and the chance to take care of Momma and family. I’m not going to shake my fist at that.

NFL pays a ton more now. Guys are bigger, faster. If I was going Pro looking to be a 1 or 2 round pick and not coming back. If we weren't playing in the play off's. I'm getting ready for Pro Days and doing what's best for me and my family for me to be playing on Sunday. That's the dream of these guys that have been playing as kids, to make it to the NFL.
Getting hurt in a now meaningless bowl game when you're so close to realizing you dream is soul crushing. It's just risk vs reward

Exactly. I'm glad I'm not in Hyatt's shoes. He's so close to breaking a big UT record, but he's being projected as a fringe late first/early 2nd round pick. If he plays and gets hurt, that blows up. If I were his parents, I would be incredibly torn as to the advice I would be giving him. Maybe they can talk to the coaches and get him the record and get him out. It's truly incredible the season he had. It goes to show you what personal accountability and insanely hard work will do for a player. Did anybody have any idea that he would be in the first round of any 2023 mocks just 3 months ago? In this day and age, you have to strike while the iron is hot.

Please stop this nonsense. Doing what is best for their future is not a bad thing.

I think the truth is somewhere in the middle lol

Just what I’ve heard I’m really hoping Bru and Hyatt and Fant play. I can understand Tillman not playing

So Bru already said he was coming back to play 2023 and he’s opting out ! Who is your source that makes no sense. I’m not gonna play last game of year so I’ll be ready for Kickoff next September.

If he plays he should play some meaningful mins but you'd have to think Clem would do their best to shut him down from getting it and sad as it is, some haters out that would be looking to crush him on purpose.
Agreed if the iron is hot take advantage because it may cool off next season, you may still get drafted but instead of being a 1-2 round pick you've now fallen to 4th or 5th but getting in you'll make something and if you shine can work your way into bigger money and contracts but you threw away alot of money on the front end by not taking advantage of going 1-2 round when you had the chance

I know it’s what the boys work so hard for but I also understand the risks . Especially after what happened to Hendon, it could literally cost them millions.

Here is what I don't know but would be curious about:

Take player A - first round expectations - about mid way. Let's go a step further and say at that spot, this player A was the third overall receiver taken. And for giggles, let's say on average that kind of spot and position gets a 3 year contract for a total of $15 million.

Would it not be unreasonable for a group like the Volunteer Club (which I joined last week:)) et al to buy an insurance policy for player A that would pay out that amount if he did get hurt? Just wondering how the NIL etc. could play into something like this...

Hip injury could be keeping him out.

He was day to day on Vandy game I heard he was held out due to weather and extra precautions. I think the announcers said he was warming up in early walk thrus. It’s 25 days till game time so you go from day to day to 25 day sit out.

Hopefully one or both of Clemson's defensive lineman that are potential top 10 picks.

So far, no. Clemson has lost DJU and some portal guys. Except for DJU, all are reserves or guys that have battled injuries.

Example: WR E.J. Williams, got hurt, never really 100% after, and now appears to have lost his spot to the Turner kid who balked out against UNC.

Example: RB Kobe Pace, injured, behind Shipley and Mafeh. He's a Tually a good back. UT could use him.

Obviously, DJU had mentally checked out before Clemson played South Carolina. I have no clue why Dabo didn't pull him for Klubnik. He's graduating this month and would likely have been gone anyway. Klubnik is their guy at QB, with Clemson-Northwestern-Clemson transfer Hunter Johnson and walk in Hunter Helms backing him up.

Then give them a swag bag, I don't care about the swag bag. But if a player doesn't want to fulfill the responsibilities of their scholarship agreement with the school, then the school should have some sort of recourse. There has to be some recourse.
It's a new world

Who do you think will opt out? Just booked my flight. Hoping Hyatt and Banks play. GBO!
I think they should all opt out and get ready for next year!! Seems like that's new way to do things!!
I mean they could get hurt and ruin their future!!🤔

Especially considering how the Tillman injury impacted Hyatt's season. There is a totally different narrative if Ced doesn't go down against Akron.
Expanded playoffs will kill interest in the bowls and the conference title games. I waiting to see who'll be the first kid to opt out of a playoff game. If the draft spot is pretty clear, like an obvious first round prospect, do you take the safety of knowing you sat out and did not get hurt, or do you play for a meaningless (monetarily speaking) title, and risk injury?

The opt out is the thing that really sucks for bowl season for those of us that spend the money to go to the game. If you don’t make the playoff, it’s like nobody cares.
Bowls dont mean as much to players in the CFP era. Fans care more about them than players

And we don't have to worry about LSU getting left out of the CFP since they did not become SEC chanps. lol.

What gm would take a player that can’t risk it for his team in playoffs ?
when can they risk it ? If it’s all about the benjamins, ain’t no love for the game and team…..don’t sound like a winner . Just my 2 cents. What Would Jajuan Jennings do ? That would be the type to build a team with
