Oregon to target Pearl?

No. I didn't realize it required personal involvement to see surreptitiously taping a conversation with a 17 year old is ethically bankrupt.

Not sure I would go as far as "ethically bankrupt". From what I know of the circumstances I didn't have a huge problem with what he did.

I understand where Hat is coming from, but IMO, one indiscretion 20 years ago doesn't equal the character of that man today.

Yeah Oregon breaks the bank for their coaches.....

Here's one for you

According to the press release, Kent had two years remaining on his contract that went into effect on July 1, 2007, and was amended on July 1, 2008. That pact called for him to be paid an annual guaranteed base salary from the University of $150,000. With additional compensation from deferred income, ticket sales and the Oregon Sports Network the contract was valued at $1.06 million. According to a 2008 contract addendum, the University would owe Kent a sum of $1.15 million in lieu of his annual salary and incentives should his employment be terminated without cause.

And also....

MIKE BELLOTTI
School: Oregon.
Length: Through 2010 season.
Guaranteed salary: $600,000.
Details: Reportedly earns $1 million per year with incentives, including a percentage of ticket sales. Oregon adds a year to his contract after each season.

On sports radio here in Atlanta, they were laughing at the mere suggestion that Oregon could contend for a big name because.....they don't pay their coaches anything!!!!

You're suggesting that Oregon is going to triple what they are paying their basketball coach to lure Bruce Pearl away. The suggestion is ludicrous.

I googled Oregon basketball and Bruce Pearl, got nada. Didn't Pearl marry an east Tennessee girl and turned down 3 million to coach Memphis?

Yeah, and also I have to think that Steven being on the team is another reason.

if you think Oregon wont pony up the dough for a big name coach, think again. belloti and kent weren't proven before they were hired by oregon.

They might try, but they aren't going to get one. The only "big name" I've heard is PJ Carlesimo.

steve alford and mark few, an oregon alum, would be a few other 'big names' to consider.

Steve Alford, yeah, but I don't know if I would say he's a big name. Mark Few is, but I'm not sure he's as much of a serious contender as several others

So you're suggesting that Oregon is going to pay more for a basketball coach than a football coach?

Use some sense man....

If few says yes, there are no other contenders.

Pearl isn't going anywhere so calm down. He'll just use this situation to get a pay raise for him and his staff that they do not deserve.

So, Phil Knight is too cheap to pony up some big bucks to get the Ducks rolling on bigtime street?
