Oregon to target Pearl?

With the new arena, Nike connections, and Knight's money, they will be looking to pay someone what it takes to sell tickets. But it seems like it would be a Nike guy, and Pearl doesn't really fall into those connections.

On April 2, 2009 a report from a Memphis news station reported that the University of Memphis was preparing to offer Pearl a 7-year, $21 million contract to become their next head coach, days after John Calipari left the school to become the head coach at UK. However, later that night, UT announced that they and Pearl just agreed to a six-year extension for Pearl to stay with the university. "It's great to be a Tennessee Vol!", proclaimed Pearl.

This isn't accurate?

My gut tells me he wouldn't leave but I wouldn't be completly shocked if he left for another job.....

The time to get worried about losing Pearl is when a Big East job opens up or maybe BC, his alma mater. After all most coaches want "to go home"

Highly unlikely he would go unless they doubled his salary. Going to Oregon is taking a step backwards. Something like North Caroling or UCLA maybe.....

Oregon opens new facilties, next year. they want a top coach and the northwest has quite a few top recruits, every year.they'll be after a exciting style and a proven coach, they'll pay way more than kent got to get that coach.

Pearl isn't going anywhere for at least another year. And then, it would have to be for a huge raise or to a major basketball program.

Pearl's buyout is around 2 million I believe plus his salary to leave would have to top what he is getting now, so let's say 3.5 million, so that puts any school that wants to come after him to have to have around 5-6 million just to get him.

I don't think Iowa has that type of money, but with Nike's backing, I think Oregon could approach that. I actually think one thing that might really help us is that Pearl's wife is from East Tennessee and I'm assuming that she might hold some sway on his decision about leaving, if it comes to that.

With that being said, look what we have coming back and we have coming in for the next two years and you have to think, why would he want to start over? Next to Kentucky, we recruit the best of any other SEC school, and our recruiting class for the next two years will be on par's with theirs.

according to jim rome tennessee is the "girl" you have a one night stand with, but usc is the "girl" you settle down and marry. So what kind of "girl" is oregon? A hooker or stripper maybe? Although his comments were on the football situation i do not think that oregon has anything to offer that tennessee does not.

a hooker:

i'm not sure they actually are interested. pearl and kent have a lot of similarities.

For instance. Take a look at this suit:

Apparently UT is not a destination job
Posted via VolNation Mobile

How are you able to divine that UT is not a destination coaching position for Bruce Pearl? The Vols have had 5 successful seasons in a row, with a top 5 class projected for next year. We now have recruiting appeal and first class facilities. Our star is truly beginning to shine.

uh...some need the showmanship to get to where we are today. It has enormous value and nobody here is discounting that.

Too bad you don't understand that without the showmanship this program is going to fall flat on it's face. We needed it to get where we are, and to stay where we are.

maybe you don't understand winning because you haven't been around it.

Have you not noticed how the showmanship has backed off over the past couple seasons. Our coach isn't having to push as hard for air time.
