Oregon to target Pearl?

Yes it does. He improved them from where they were, but he isn't going to be winning national titles anytime soon. That's exactly what BPV was talking about.

Right. It's what he was talking about. But until someone comes in and wins a National Title with what Beamer has built, then it isn't relevant.

It doesn't prove anything. Do you think someone is going to replace Beamer at VT and win a title? I don't. I think Beamer is the best guy for that job.

link?

i bet the average home price in berkeley didn't drop by a higher % than it did in knoxsville.

What about the other parts of California?

Or do these "reasons" you speak of only apply to Berkley? What are these reasons again?

the 'other parts of california' that dropped 30% are crapholes. berkeley is an amazing place to live. i'm sure there are parts of tenn that are crapholes too that don't compare to knoxsville.

Lived in Eugene for two years...seventh circle of hell...2 million would buy you anything there, the only probllem is it would be in Eugene...

Oregon would be a lateral move at best. Pearl said to Doug Gottlieb of ESPN when asked about Iowa that he was "staying at Tennessee as long as they will have me." I truly believe that. I could only see him leaving if an elite program comes calling, and even then he may turn them down. With continued success, he has a chance to be THE coach of Tennessee basketball.

Why can't VT be competitive? Programs have every right to fight for success. They don't have to give a damn that they weren't good before. It will be harder, but just sitting around content doesn't get anything done.

The Bay Area is expensive but that doesn't mean Berkeley is a nice place...this is even more true for Oakland

That's one of the main drawbacks to living there. I didn't want to spend 1200 dollars a month for a small studio apartment.

when you look at what 500k buys you there compared to say Knoxville. It's a lot to give up.

Supply and demand. The price is higher because more people want to live there. More people want to live there because more people perceive the area as "nicer".

I think Bruce can be more successful here, but he has to start getting more out of his team consistently. He's not developing people nearly well enough.

spoken from somoene who clearly has never been to eugene.
Been there several times. It's nothing special. However, Phil Knight's money and Nike's cache make any job they are attached to more attractive than coaching at schools where tree hugging or sunbathing are more important than basketball.

Seton Hall has fired HC Bobby Gonzales, will there be a chance CBP is interested? or just another Bruce to whereever thread?

doubt it. and its not a 'is pearl interested with oregon' thread, but rather a 'would oregon try to hire pearl?' thread

Why has Tennessee not switched to Nike then ? Seems like it would for sure help with some of the recruits that that kind of stuff matters to.

I would totally get Pearl leaving for Oregon, because with a solid coach that can be an excellent place for success. I mean, Kent was not that good of a coach and twice almost went to the Final Four.

Just an interesting side note though: If you are Bruce, why would you leave your biggest ally with the Pump Brothers? The Pumps are his biggest ally and helped land him the UT job. Going to Oregon would probably destroy that relationship. I don't know if that risk is worth it.

If i not mistaken, all of next years recruits are signed.the Vols would have to let them out of their commitments to follow the coach if he left....

+1000000000000

And Tennessee does not negotiate with terrorists...er...I mean the United States does not let any players out of commitments...

And I think even if the money is right, Pearl still wouldn't leave...but there is no doubt he is going to try and receive a raise he doesn't deserve unless he gets a Final Four this year, which seems very improbable.

Sidenote: If Pearl left, someone to look out for would be Lawrence Frank. He would be an excellent choice in my opinion.

He said the EXACT same quote about UW-Milwaukee. Don't think hes leaving to go anywhere this year, Steven has one more year and hes bringing in a monster class.
