Oregon's Gimmick Offense Should Put Us On Notice

That's because our defense sucks balls. The read option isn't new anymore. We won't fool anyone.

The read option doesn't have to be "new" when it's executed properly. Implemented in a right way, and it will work, just like any offense can.

And if you think Meyer never gave Tebow the ability to improvise and read plays to certain different defensive looks then you are kidding yourself. It was a pure spread look, but there was definitely some flexibility implemented.

Tennessee's offensive line should watch the Stanford Oregon game film to see what its like to actually give a shyte about run blocking.

And oh - gimmicky offense sucks. See BAMA and Stanford. But CBJ has a system and the best staff in America. Sheeesh give me a break already. CBJ will have to adapt his scheme if he wants long term success in the SEC.

What coach in SEC has sustained success with zone read spread option offense??? Dont even say Urban Meyer at Fla because he quit.

What is gimmicky about our offense? Please explain.

True but Stanford has stopped them. That's the problem with "up-tempo" offenses. You had better have a good defense because if you don't the game gets out of hand in a hurry.

They give up 16.9 pts a game. That's 8th best in the country. I'd say that's better than good.

They're having a bad night. You can't turn the ball over 3 times in the red zone and expect to be very successful.

Isn't this a moot point anyway though because if you don't have a good defense you won't be winning any rings anyway.

Hey man either you're on the Butch Jones train or you aren't. Choose.

I guess this game proves that speed kills unless you are more intelligent. I'm glad Stanford exposed this gimmick offense. I hope we don't try to implement this crap in Knoxville.

Alabama vs damn near everybody and Stanford vs Oregon says hello to all you gimmick offense lovers.

The gimmick offense tries to just trick you or exploit mistakes. The power offense tries to impose its will and beat you down.

After Dooley I'm taking a wait and see approach. I see some improvement but ill believe it when I see it. So far the wheels are falling off just like last year.

Dude. Stop. Oregon has turned the ball over twice inside the 5 yard line, and one more time inside the redone. Their defense is completely incapable of getting Stanford off the field. Thus, Stanford has been able to play their style of game. This is more of an indictment of Oregon's defense than their offense.

And it works always. Look at all of Bama's and Stanford's undefeated seasons.

In general i think that zone read spread option is gimmicky. Are you even watching what Stanford is doing to Oregon's vaunted offense?

Point is Tennessee won a ntal chp with conventional offense.

How many unconventional offenses (spread option - zone read offenses) have won a BCS Championship or a Natl Chsp?

Nope. With Oregons gimmick offense you can't have excuses. You have to score every time. Doesn't happen in SEC play.

Isn't it gimmicky to run the ball 80% of the time from a 3 TE set? The problem is that Oregon can't get off the field, and they have turned the ball over when they were in scoring range.

Bama has 3 Natl Championships in 4 freaking years.....

Whats your point!

When Tennessee won their natl champ in 98 did they do it with a zone read?
