Oregon's Gimmick Offense Should Put Us On Notice

Ok, do we have a Cam Newton or Tebow? Those guys are once in a lifetime college qbs. Won't happen again for a while.

If they were once in a lifetime players...WHY ARE THERE TWO OF THEM?

Yeah. I'm serious. Oregon's defense is hot garbage against a power team. Stanford has chewed up clock. On the times that Oregon has gotten into scoring range, they have turned the ball over. This game says more about Oregon's defense than it does their offense. Disagree?

Yes because Stanford's defense has manhandled that vaunted Oregon offense.

You guys are the same ones saying that Oregon would spank Alabama which was never going to happen. Bama would demolish Oregon worse than Stanford has!!!!!

I just facepalmed so hard I think I gave myself a concussion. Dude you have proved over and over that you really can't fix stupid.

The only stupidity I see is your inability to respond to my point with a cogent retort. That, Ulysses, is unfortunate.

So you want us to be a finesse team? That's cool.

No, not finesse. Auburn runs a spread, read option offense, but it's a run heavy, power running offense. Butch's philosophy is predicated on being able to be physical up front and run the ball with power. The read option simply puts pressure on the defense by making the QB a viable run threat. Certainly doesn't mean that it's inheritly a "finesse offense" cause it's not.

Oregon is unique in that they have tremendous team speed and the spread allows them to take advantage of their skill players by putting them in space.

Watch what Auburn does to us Saturday. It will be Mano y Mano, trying to create one on one matchups between our interior DL and their interior OL so they can win 1 on 1 matchups and run it down our throat.... nothing finesse about it.

You got every right not to like our read option offense. Hell, I'm not crazy about it, just the fundamentals of it. But you can be just as physical out of it as you can be out of the traditional pro style offense which I actually prefer. But you just can't argue that Oregon's offense doesn't work cause it does.... to the tune of about 11 wins a year.

Nobody is answering my question. What, specifically, is gimmicky about our offense?

To be fair, our offense isn't good enough to try to be gimmicky. That is actually even worse. At least we could still pound the ball out of the I. Shotgun runs are not how you win titles with anyone not named Tim Tebow or Cam Newton.

Specifically, what is gimmicky about CBJ's offense? Please, somebody answer me that!!!

One back sets. No full-backs or usage of tight ends. Read option. Reverse plays to pig howard, need I say more?

Doing well but neither have won anything of import as headcoach.

And Auburn had that QB - what was his name - the one who got paid to play - wout him there would be no Natl Chsp.

The same with Tebow - who perhaps was the best college football player of all time. And what did Urban do - if that offense was so unstoppable why did he leave one of the most fertile recruiting grounds in America..... Because that offense was not going to work long term in the SEC!!!!!! It worked for him at Fla for one reason - Tim Tebow.

You realize that Meyer won his first NC with Chris Leak as his starting QB right? Tebow was important but they won with elite defense.

Oregon just scored. 1 out of 4 times in the redzone resulted in a TD. If Oregon had simply not fumbled the ball away, and had kicked the field goal on that 4th and goal, this game would be 26-24 Stanford with 10:00 left in the 4th. I don't see how you are possibly blaming this beatdown on Oregon's scheme. If you wanted to blame it on execution, I'd be right there with you. But they put themselves in position to get points all night, and they continually shot themselves in the foot. Offensive execution was poor, and defense got run over by an offense that they have never been good at stopping.

That style of offense has been around for 10 years and many teams have won with it. Stop acting like we're running the A11 offense with no down linemen.

Wow you said "cogent"...you must be really smart. :birgits_giggle: There was no need for anything else to be said. Your post is stupid. Keep it simple.

Or Vince Young, or Chris Leak, etc

Except for the national title they won with Chris Leak taking 90% of the snaps.

it wsnt 90%.

and anytime FLa needed a first down or touchdown, who came into the game to get it?

Who?

Who?

Good God man you guys are such sheep. Cant let anyone even make any kind of statement or implication that CBJ isn't the best freaking coach in America or that his system may not be the best for SEC football. I mean really......

Been around a lot longer than that. Option offenses have been around forever. Read option is just a new wrinkle.

One back sets are the norm for prostyle offenses in the NFL. The fullback has pretty much gone extinct with the exception of the kid down at LSU. The read option, ugly as it is to me, is being used with great effectiveness all throughout college football. I'll agree with you on the Reverse sweeps to Pig comment.... could do without ever seeing another one.

It's not gimmicky. It's just another style of offense, which everyone has seen but when properly executed, virtually no one can stop.
