Orson Charles (announcing at 4:30 pm EST)

I think if USC doesn't get him, he's ours. I like what he said in an interview talking about Eric Berry and Tenn. He used the word "Us". I like that and I think he's see's himself as a Volunteer right now. Hope that doesn't change on his visit to USC, we'll see.

Plus, I don't think he wants to be described as a "Hybrid type TE" like Richt said, he wants to be a "Traditional TE" IMO. He likes to block, and that bodes well for us, not so well for UGA having signed Lynch.

Remember, this is the same guy who broke UF's 2006 National Championship Trophy, so, he isn't going to UF. If we land this guy, expect another shiv comment to CUM from CLK, and I hope it happens. CLK is a PR nightmare for some, but an angel for others.

“I was a little concerned,” said Charles. UGA has already signed Arthur Lynch of Dartmouth, Mass., who is considered a “traditional” tight end.
“I was kind of hearing that Georgia was telling Arthur the same things that they were telling me … and I called Coach Richt because I wanted to hear what he had to say.”
“Coach Richt said that Arthur and me are two different type of players. He said Arthur is more of a ‘complete’ tight end, while I’m more like a ‘hybrid’ guy. [Richt] cleared up all the confusion, and I appreciated it.”

Hope this helps.

That's why he said "close to being"

We aren't attacking you for relaying what you heard, but it just doesn't sound right, so we are skeptical at best.

edit: If true, language at this point would be more akin to, "He is close to signing." A lock generally refers to a ver very solid verbal, and its a little late in the game for commitments, now is the time for signing.

I agree 100% with what Jack said. :)

This has been my feeling on it as well. I don't see USC getting him. I see it being between UGA/UF for the same reasons Jack mentioned. They have been on him the longest and the hardest.

That could be good for us. They haven't been able to close the deal, so there's something there that concerns him. Could be that he knows CMR isn't the greatest game-day coach and that Urban may leave for ND. Also sounds like UGA's signing of Arthur Lynch is an issue. CMR's explanation that Lynch is more of a 'traditional TE' while Orson is more of a hybrid sounds a little like a 'cop out' to me. Sounds like CMR is trying to make Orson think he's more of a hybrid TE (makes me think of the way Clausen tried to use Brandon Warren last year that didn't work for us).

He's about the height of Dallas Clark (and can bulk up to Clark's size while in college), but his current times look faster than Clark's. Is that the right way to think about Orson?

We've got a great shot. Right coast with the right offensive system to use his skills. He'd be a such a sweet addition for us and he could get a lot of PT this fall. I think Kiffin will make it a priority to play our Frosh.

If Stocker can unfreeze those big ice blocks he calls hands I think he could be a major threat at TE. With that said I think Charles could come in and take it over.

Stocker may become the 2nd for two TE sets if Charles comes. Brandon's better hands and running ability is why I liked him last year, and presumably why CLK has talked about splitting him out. These names all sound pretty good in the same post. :eek:k:

Btw... I think we'll see several two TE sets at UT this fall.

Hooker article from yesterday----

Close eye kept on Vols despite recruiting distractions : Football : GoVolsXtra.com

The Vols are still in the hunt for three post-signing day prospects: lineman Kwame Geathers from Carvers Bay (S.C.) High School and tailbacks Bryce Brown from Wichita (Kan.) East High and David Oku from Carl Albert High in Midwest City, Okla.

I guess Hooker doesn't have a VolNation account, or else he would've heard of this little tight end prospect out of Plant High School in Florida.

:ermm:
