Orson Charles (announcing at 4:30 pm EST)

Noch,

My bad, dude.

No worries, definitely didn't want to come across as "that guy" just love that movie (hell, I wanted us to land Ronnie Wingo in recruiting just so I could say his name like Doc says "why johnny ringo, you looked like somebody just walked over your grave").

Hey socal, way to be classy. We need more posters like you from other teams. It seems as if you have some intelligence as well. We don't get to see that very often down here since we have sooooo many Bammer fans around.

He's not so different than one of us would appear on his board. JMO.

Not even - close. This guy came on here saying he was a stone cold lock to USC. Most here would like to think we'd get him but don't think we really have any lead.

I don't have any problems with him - just needs to learn to be the slightest be objective for once and stop claiming every recruit USC offers is a "lock" to USC and to mark it down.

Noch, no worries. No apology neccesary. Tombstone is a masterpiece. A bit melodramatic, but aren't all true Hollywood films?

Eric, thanks. This seems like a good board. I am still trying to get a feel for a few things here, and I will always try to be respectful. See, not just southern people are raised with manners and courtesy.

Since I breached the subject of the nature of this board, I have a few questions. Such as who is truly the most despised team for the diehard Vols fan? My guess is Alabama over the long haul. Or Georgia. But recently, maybe Florida.

Also, does anybody in the entire state have anything bad to say about Peyton Manning? When I have been to TN, he is talked about like he will be possibly knighted soon.

Leinart left a trail of infamy that will be talked about for years to come. And not always in a good way, either.

Bruno, first and foremost, show me where I used the term stone-cold lock. Also, some people do actually have sources. Perhaps you could question the validity of the sources, but do not assume everybody here has the same information. Or lack there of, perhaps.

Much of this hyperbole has been with the hopes of having a good, hearty dialogue. Nothing offensive has been intended, just a little sarcasm and jibber jabber.

Peace

You didn't say stone-cold lock specifically - but you might as well have. And what are these "sources" that have him as a stone-cold lock to USC that you had before he even came on his visit?

I do believe most recruits are coming to SC. PC's batting average is one of the most impressive in CFB history. However, it would be rather naive and a bit presumptious to believe EVERY single one would actually commit.

With Ed Orgeron on board, many posters here will believe you can get any Dline prospect. If the prospect truly is open, that dude can recruit. He is one of the most relentless, affable recruiters ever.

Peace

Ok - but what are these 'sources' mentioned in the previous posts that you had before the visit even occured?

Bruno, we all have our own sources. Some more knowledgeable than others. Certain people you trust, others not so much.

A rather substantial portion of my initial posts were supposed to be taken with a grain of salt. However, IF distance is not a factor, then I will stand by my claims. Once again, Teo was a lock to SC. How he ended up at Notre Shame has already become a legend enshrouded in mystery.

So we shall see. Peace

BTW, Charles will choose between UT, UGA, and USC. He just texted Hubbs with that.

So nothing really groundbreaking there. He eliminated Florida, which could be seen from a mile away.

Thanks for the official update though.

Not too sure about this one...i guess time will tell. I keep going back and forth.

in my opinion it will come down to us and usc mostly due to his uncertainty with how he will be used at georgia...if distance is a factor he will choose us, if it's not it's hard to beat pete carroll for a recruit, unless you're notre dame or ucla apparently

According to a report at USCFootball.com:

“The moment Charles saw a No. 7 jersey among all the others in the locker room, he immediately wanted to find out if it was available. The answer to that is no, Matt Barkley, USC’s quarterback of the future has already claimed it. That didn’t deter Charles though; it only brought out his inner businessman. “I’m trying to talk to Matt Barkley to renegotiate his jersey,” Charles said with a laugh. “I’m hoping he will. I’m not sure how I’m going to handle it, but I’m pretty sure it could help [my decision] if Matt Barkley gave up No. 7. We talked about it for a little while. At first he didn’t think I was serious, but then we kept talking, and I kept bugging him about it. Then he said, ‘I don’t mind giving up my number to anybody who’s my teammate’, and we both got a good laugh out of it.”

Voltilifall,

Ouch, that stings a tad. In reality, SC has dominated SoCal for a decade in recruiting. Too much has been made over the few minor victories by ***LA. The little, gutty Ruins have years of futility to make up for before they can seriously compete with SC. I would say that SC probably got 9 out of 10 of their target recruits in California before this year. This year, perhaps they got 8 out of 10. The only one that is really surprising is Morell Pressley.

Ironically, the loss of MP is the very reason SC got involved with Orson Charles. I guess, ultimately, everything comes full circle. When Charles discovered the fact that SC only became interested when they lost Presley, he had every right to say F and U. However, his response was a surefire sign he was extremely interested in SC. He had no animosity whatsoever.

The guy that ***LA fans make a big deal about switching is Randall Carroll. Simply put, overrated is not a strong enough word to describe this dude. When Pete Carroll told him he could thrive at corner, he seemed to be on board. However, Slick Rick convinced him to play WR, and the rest is history. Forget the fact that the kid couldn't catch a VD at a Tijuana donkey show, let alone catch a football. But, this a recurring theme in college football. Everybody wants to play WR. Nobody wants to play corner. That's why so many defenses last year were so pathetic. Possibly the worst in CFB history.

Now Teo, what a shock. But, don't get me started on that. I can devote a whole thread on all the juicy gossip there. The two for one package regarding Roby Toma, the statement by Chow dissing SC, Manti saying he wants to be a part of "building a dynasty, not being just another part of an existing one", etc.

Now Bruno, I am still confident. But, if you want to talk about blatant homerism, look at the UGA boards. They make it sound like a done deal. I have said it many times, but for the sake of being redundant, how about one more? If he wanted to go to UGA, why not commit weeks ago? Something about the situation there rubbed him wrong. Hopefully, one of our programs will reap the benefits.

Peace

Maybe he doesn't realize that jersey numbers are just numbers. It's kind of immature to factor in a jersey number to the biggest decision of his life thus far.

Without directly giving away the source, somebody who actually spoke to Orson's family asked how important the number really was. The response was a bit surprising, to say the least. The number was VERY important, according to a real close family member. Close enough that they accompanied OC in LA.

Several SC insiders claim Barkley offered him the jersey. However, since Barkley is being hailed as the chosen one, I doubt this to be entirely true. On the other hand, the number 6 is now available to MB. And the bookstore could move the rest of the 6 jersey's they currently have in stock.

Peace
