Orson Charles (announcing at 4:30 pm EST)

I am glad our coaching staff doesn't play a religious angle in recruiting. I think it is manipulative and inappropriate to do so.

You may think it is ridiculous and inappropriate...but it IS a factor when some families are in consideration. This IS the Bible belt whether you like it or not. You simply cannot take that factor out of the equation. It is why CPF played well in many homes. NO I DON'T WANT HIM BACK...but he was able to get a lot of players in here over the years. The FAMILY thing is playing big at UGA. Go look at all their coaches. They stay due to CMR taking care of the family. Continuity is a BIG factor to kids. Those coaches at UGA have had ample chance to leave for better jobs...but they stay. I HATE UGA...but fact are facts.

It's a big factor to these families and kids. I'm glad to see them factor god in their choice, this say's alot about their character.imo

If we get Brown and Charles, does that make this a top 10 class?

Almost certainly on Rivals and Scout

Edit: now that I check again, I would think that would land us at 9-11 on Rivals and 10 on Scout, so not as certain as I thought.

I enjoyed reading the 15 Questions with O. Charles. He sounds like a decent young man, whereever he goes. Its not all bad for us that two of his most prominent advisors are Tony Dungy and Michael Clayton, both of whom are personally aquainted with some of our staff like Kiffin Sr. We'll see.

First, the bible belt aspect only matters to a select few that are in the bible belt...

I'm also a firm believer that teams that are treated like a business have better success than those with a warm fuzzy family enviornment. This is just my opinion, and I'm sure I'll get blasted for it.

I also believe that if Orson was dead set on the dawgs, he wouldve signed already. I get the impression he's not all dawg, or not even partial dawg due to his tardiness in signing. I think he's all vol.

Thats exactly what I was thinking. Dungy's relationship with Monte really stuck out. Also, the fact that he said something is "different" about Tennessee has to be taken as a postive. Right now I am going to go out on a limb and say we have a 33.3% chance of landing him.

I think the kid wants to make sure he makes the right choice. I think maybe a couple of weeks ago he thought UT was the right place.

But after reading that it sure looks like he is leaning to Dawg-ville. But the article has a UGA slant to it. We will see Friday. He could play quicker here but I don't know if that will be enough of a lure to get him on campus.

He seems like a good kid. Best of luck to him.

Who knows if it is true or not, but some guy on GV Extra is claiming that his buddy's kid plays at plant and that Charles told them he was going to UGA.

I think it is a really bad thing that he hasn't spoken to CLK in a while... I think we lost this one.

Oh well, Bryce Brown will be a bigger catch.

Like everyone keeps saying, maybe Kiffin has told OC to keep UT on the downlow on purpose.

Either way I strongly believe BB is the bigger catch as well. It confuses me why people think OC will have a big enough impact to change us from a 6-7 win team to a 9 win team, which I have seen

OC to Georgia. Too many things pulling him there. His HS qb, school that was recruiting him the most, good relationship with the TE coach, and the religious angle too.

No one player (esp. TE or WR) makes THAT much of a difference, but there is no denying that he is an impact player.

If UGA gets OC, with MB and AJG, that would be a huge problem for opposing defenses trying to cover all three big men at the same time.

The only reason why I feel OC could effect our W-L so much is because I feel like he is the main tool (minus QB) that our O is missing. We need a big target to help our running game and short passing game become more effective.

So without him I feel like the O will struggle like last year. With him I think we could have enough tools to have a pretty solid O.

i get the feeling that brandon warren is gonna play a much more significant role in our offense next year so we might already have that big target on campus

But what you may not be considering is the mental and physical gap between a highschool senior(even one as gifted as Charles) and a D1 football player...

Not only are college offensive schemes usually much more complicated but if Charles plays the traditional TE role then he will be playing on the line against some of the most talented players in the country who have been in a top notch S&C program for at least a year...

And let's not forget what it means to be a TE...from an impact standpoint...

I mean...when was the last time any TE made a 2-3 game difference...let alone as a true freshman...

I would love it if you're right(assuming he makes that impact here and not at UGA or USC) but it's just unrealistic to think that a true freshman TE is going to make that kind of impact
