Other great coaches that started similar to CBJ

that is ok if it makes you feel better1

you are all over threads trying to convince everybody you are right and everybody else is not a true fan. you sound like the old Dooley drinkers on here. To be honest you are pathetic. Cause you see things in your orange colored glasses does not make it so. For the record I like BJ , just not so much of his best coaching staff in the country BS. Keep your head in the sand

ok, maybe so, but I hope you see things with a long term eye.

If you quit arguing with these idiots they will go away. These idiots make up about 1% of our fanbase just ignore them. They get their rocks off when they upset you'll. Butch has plenty of support not many 4-6 teams put over 90000 in the stands.

if you have 20 millions of dollars to change the situation, go ahead, change it!, if not, shut the f up and support our staff because that is the better option! unless you are an opposing teamer!

Grow up.

No. Giving uncritical support is not a better option... it is stupid.

I do not think so either. The thing that scares me is if we go 5-7 next season which is a possibility with all the youth that will be forced to play that Jones will have to make a change and be in the same situation that Dooley was in trying to hire a proven coordinator while he himself is not on firm ground.

I am actually not worried about that unless he changes O systems in the process.

I still think the O will work itself out. If it doesn't, changing won't save Jones because they improvements won't come in time.

The D on the other hand could get better quickly with a coaching change should it be necessary. This D held only two opponents to under 20 pts this year. They could not stop... USA except for TO's. People complain about talent but it is pretty much the same as last year and better than the two years previous to that overall in terms of depth, athleticism, and maturity.

I know you think Vandy proved something... to me it proved only that UT was that much more athletic on D than Vandy was on O.

we are getting better quality with stability! you may have to eat your words!!!!!!!!!!!!

Suits me. I would love to see the coaching staff do a 180 next year and win a bunch of games they aren't expected to win. But nothing they've done this year suggests that's going to happen. Worse yet... virtually every excuse they've used... depth, talent, speed, athleticism, experience, etc... will get WORSE in '14.

I guess awesome coaches lose to Vandy with two weeks to prepare.

keep rollin' rollin' rollin' these excuses out there.

Georgia Southern went into the swamp and won with way less talent. They actually coached their players.

UT had two weeks to prepare for Jordan Matthews, I mean Vandy, and still looked lost..

Big East football.

Curious to know what a coaching genius such as yourself would suggest as a solution?

Soon...... I suppose.

I have felt all year that the D would be alright if they could just get some confidence and I thought they played a nearly perfect game Saturday until the last drive. I think if AJ comes back and he should and we can get a couple of interior guys to step up the defense will be much improved next season. I heard on the radio today that Saturday may have been the best game this season for the defense for both the players and the coaches and I cannot disagree with that.

As I said earlier I think I am just tired of going into the off season with more questions than answers.

that is why we need positive pr, you have to detach yourself from results, we have to fake it till we make it, there is no other choice.:hi:

I never thought fellow Vol fans could get on my nerves so much...In every aspect of the game there is so much negativity. Coaching sucks, current players give up and lack heart, our recruiting class won't stick...

Blah blah blah.

Why don't you shut up, grow some patience, and give this process some time?

Here's some news for you... Nick Saban's first year at Michigan state he went 6-5-1. His first year at Alabama he went 2-6.

Our beloved Johnny Majors went 4-7 and 5-5-1 in his first two years at Tennessee.

Les Miles went 4-7 his first year at Oklahoma State.

Pete Carrol went 6-6 his first year at USC.

Jim Tressel went 7-5 his first year at Ohio State.

Bobby Bowden went 5-6 his first year at Florida State.

The list goes on. This is a rebuilding process... We all know what Butch inherited from Dooley and Kiffin. I know we are Tennessee and I hear it all the time..."This is the University of Tennessee! This shouldn't be tolerated!"

You're right! And it isn't being tolerated... hence the changes being made albeit if the changes take some time to take affect.

The recruits are coming. Come NSD I will bet anyone on VN that we finish with a full class of at least 30 and have a top 10 class...possibly better.

Take a deep breath and remember as the old saying goes "The night is darkest just before the dawn."

WRONG . The team closed the regular season at 6–6 (4–4, SEC) and lost for a sixth-straight time to rival Auburn. The Tide defeated Colorado in the 2007 Independence Bowl 30–24 to finish their first season under Nick Saban at a 7–6 (4–4) record

and FSU had a 4–29 record over the previous three seasons, before Bowden so he won more games there in his first season than the 3 seasons before I call that progress

so you just admitted that all you are doing is trying to convince people to buy into your way of thinking, cause your thinking is the only one right ? not going to happen

I corrected myself on Alabama... and used Bear Bryant instead who had a terrible first year. And for FSU, I don't doubt that they still won more games which is great. And while winning games means the most, being #2 in the nation in recruiting and finally beating a ranked SEC team are both things that Butch has done. What I mean is he is making progress. We are going to be better. But if we just axe every coach who doesn't immediately win more games than the previous coach we won't see the potential of what he could be. If you don't see that right now, I hope you open your eyes nice and wide because Butch Jones will make a believer out of you. Or I will happily eat crow.

Jim Tressel went 7-5 his first year at Ohio State.

Here's the difference in Tressel, and I'm not a Tressel fan. But when he was announced as head coach he made an appearance at a basketball game and took the mic.

He made a promise to the fans that they would go to Michigan the next year, and they did.

7-5 might not be setting the world on fire but when deliver on a promise to beat Michigan and do it then you're a superstar in the fans' eyes.

Once they upset SC they had to know thay anything short of a bowl appearance would be considered a failure. As to who said no and why, I think it had more to do with the money on the table than anything else.

Yeah, I agree with that. I don't think expecting two more wins after the SC win was expecting too much. But I also think it's an overreaction to jump off the ship and say he's Dooley all over again. As to guys turning down the job, I guess we won't know for sure, but the $ on the table is a pretty good guess. But every time there's a coaching search people set themselves up for disappointment by suggesting names like Stoops, Gruden, etc.

Some folks just never grow up. Applies to football fans too.

The fact that you received 40 likes from the original post indicates the silent majority is with you (the sane & rational silent majority).

Well said.

There was just something about that sweater vest that pissed me off haha...

Didn't Jones beat Strong/Louisville in 2010, 2011, and took'em to overtime last year and lost 34-31......that beat Florida in the Sugar Bowl 33-23....with all their starters? Big East Football baby!!!!!!

I like Butch, and I like the fact that he and staff seem to be good recruiters--a must. But the jury is out on his coaching ability. His career record is a little thin. I'm optimistic some of your comparisons don't fly. Pete Carroll had a TON of high-level coaching experience before he went to USC. He was an NFL head coach. Bowden wasn't even a good coach, in my mind: He worked in the best state for high-school football in the country and joined a very weak football conference. Nice combo--we should be so lucky.
