Our first round matchup could be Ohio State at home.

That was added after to clarify the thread subject. We have to do that way too often
I didn't know you mods did this sort of thing, but I appreciate it. I see you did that here too.

OP actually says the committee would be "retarded" to lower a team based on CG game results. That says it all right there. He thought about this for all of two seconds before barfing up a new thread. Dunning-Kruger poster child. đź‘Ž

Don't know what she is smoking but no way Vols drop from 8th to 9th with a win and 2 teams ranked above us, OSt and Miami losing. We move up not down.
She stressed a couple of times this is what she thought the committee would do. I don’t think she ever expressed a personal opinion. If she did I missed it.

Apparently someone has to spell this out for you. Why would you punish teams for making to their championship game? It’s supposed to be a reward right? Some reward if playing in that game means you could drop below someone who didn’t play in a championship game could jump you in rankings. Some of you boomers need to put the led paint down for a second and think.

It helps lessen confusion as this is just your guess on how things can turn out. There's nothing official at this point
Ahh yess total confusion. Thats what happening here. People have no discernment and must rely on the ever gracious mods to clarify the painfully obvious speculation post. You guys are definitely funny I’ll give you that.

Great news. After playing a sharp game beating the Buckeyes - either home or away - Tennessee then exposes Oregon who lost their edge during the layoff. Nico and the Big Orange are peaking at the right time.

If we wind up the 8 seed, i would rather much Penn State beat Oregon to be honest.

No doubt a Tennessee/Ohio State playoff game would be a prime time start as ESPN/ABC will set the start times.

Now. Would that be Friday night first game or Saturday night last game?

There is a difference between rankings and seeds. Because of the BS automatic byes for conference champions, some teams that will be ranked behind us will be seeded ahead of us. So our seed will be higher (worse) than our ranking. These numbers of hers are projected seeds, not rankings.

I think you’re right op. Look at the other three locked in hosts.

Penn State/Oregon
ND
Texas / UGA

Oregon most likely beats Penn State. So Penn State will host. ND will host. That’s two northern hosts and one southern one. I can see them wanting to balance that with us hosting over OSU
I see no path for PSU to host with a loss. They backed into the CG. They have no quality wins. They will have 2 losses like Ohio State, who beat them on their home field. I would guess they'd be #9/10 seed with a loss.

I guess someone needs to explain to you then that is what usually happens. Check last years SECCG as just one example.

There's indeed some foolishness in this thread, but it's only coming from the guy arguing that what USUALLY happens CAN'T happen ever again.

It’s literally based on the precedent the committee is trying to set. The committee is trying to reward conference champions and make the conference championship games matter. They can punish teams with losing their championship games but if they do that they lessen what they are trying to do which is elevate their importance. If a team knows they could lose their home playoff chances by playing in a championship game, wouldn’t they try to avoid that in the future if the scenario allowed for them to make the playoffs, keep their home field advantage and not have to play in a conference championship?

*sigh* apparently you don’t realize that was a 4 team playoff and this is a 12 playoff so that you can play with the rankings a little bit to avoid what happened last year. That’s literally the point of a 12 team playoff. To avoid what happened previously lol. This is literally what the committee has communicated lol. They want playing in the conference championship to be a reward not a punishment. This is a very basic concept that for some reason you refuse to grasp.

After seeing the AP Poll, think it will look like similar to this for this week. Keep in mind no guarantees SMU or Boise State win their conference so there is still A LOT that can happen regarding the 3/4/11/12 seeds and pushing the last team that’s currently in to completely out if Clemson wins. I think we need to be rooting for Oregon, Texas, Clemson, and UNLV to win the conference championships. We could move ahead of Georgia and possibly Penn State, depending on the outcome of those games. There is the potential SMU loses and is still in at 11, which would knock Alabama out. And if Georgia and Penn State both lose there is the possibility of us moving up to 6th. Would you rather play Ohio State at home and then play Oregon in the Rose Bowl or play SMU at home and the Big 12 Champ on a neutral field? SMU would be the 11 and the Big 12 team would be the 3 in this scenario. Really no telling with this committee and how they are going to treat conference championships but there is still quite a bit of possibilities out there. I didn’t think championship week would cause a lot of movement prior to the season but the way everything has shaken out it’s looking like there is potential for a lot more movement.

1 Oregon (1 seed)
2 Texas (2 seed)
3 Penn State (5 seed)
4 Notre Dame (6 seed)
5 Georgia (7 seed)
6 Tennessee (8 seed)
7 SMU (3 seed)
8 Ohio State (9 seed)
9 Indiana (10 seed)
10 Boise State (4 seed)
11 Alabama (11 seed)
12 South Carolina
13 Ole Miss
14 Arizona State (12 seed)
15 Miami
16 Iowa State
17 BYU
18 Clemson
19 UNLV
20 Illinois
21 Missouri
22 Colorado
23 Syracuse
24 Army
25 Memphis

I will throw my two cents worth in here. Either PSU or Texas/Ga loser will drop below us. Then at number 7 we will play Indiana in Knoxville.:)
This is definitely possible. The problem is punishing teams that make the championship game. Let’s say Georgia and tn both had one less next to last game of the season. They can both afford one loss to keep their current ranking and both barely have a home field game. Georgia loses on purpose to avoid the championship game. Tennessee wins and then loses in the championship game. Tennessee then drops below Georgia who didn’t have to play in the championship game and loses home field advantage because they simply have a loss on the week that no one else played. So in that scenario it may have been better for Tennessee to lose their last game while still keeping a playoff spot and keep their home field advantage. Does this example make sense as to why the committee shouldn’t be in the business of lowering teams who play in their championship game below teams who didn’t play in their championship game? I get why people are saying this but if the committee does this then they will have a logic problem with their own stated goals in the future.

I disagree with you that teams are immune from falling in the poll - and thereby affecting seeding - if they lose their CG. So do many other fans. That doesn't make us "retarded".
Have a good day.

It makes you logically inconsistent. Thanks for coming to my ted talk. Also, I never called you retarded. I called what the committee might do retarded.
