Our Recruiting doesn't look so good all of a sudden

Well, I've been saying for the last few weeks that this recruiting class seems to be losing steam. The Brandon Willis decommit today just adds to what I've already felt. Yeah yeah, I know signing day is still a ways away and we seem to be "in the hunt" for several prospects but I just have a bad feeling that this class will not be all that spectacular when it's all said and done.

hate to say it, but i feel the same. i expect a top 10 class, which is great, but i think it will pale in comparison to Floridas, Alabamas, and Texas, 2 teams we play every year if some of you were wondering...

I predict an 8 to 12 ranking. We are losing steam, but could still get some great prospects. As we saw today with Taylor, stars don't necessarily matter. The coach evaluations matter.

Losing Willis hurts...thanks NY Times.

what would you want

A. Sign 28 players but 4 years later only have a hand full left. like next years senior class.

B. Sign 28 players and 4 years later have 21 of them making an impact for Tennessee Football.

Belive me this coaching staff knows what they looking for.this team will be an NFL farm team in a few years.

IT COULD BE SCARY:rock:

I think most agree, but to compete with FLA we must compete better in recruiting. Though, a lot of it comes down to QB. Hopefully, we have the right QB.

very true on the qb . but they made a go with crompton. they will have 4 years with the next one
we may have to start with Stevens next year.

Stevens is a safe bet next year, especially after the positives in bowl practice. Ultimately, I just hate to see us losing momentum. Look at FLA and FSU...momentum works. Last year, we had it (momentum) to finish strong. Now we don't....A commitment from Green would help.

I honestly expected more from this staff. Built with experience and known recruiting skill and they are getting schooled by the real recruiting big dogs. It may be time Kiffin tones it down a little.

It doesn't help to lose two of your best recruiters before the bowl and then they recruit players away. We will have an 8 to 12 ranked class. Not too bad.

It is funny how all the distraction at FLA has only helped recruiting.

Some of these people are never going to learn that when you set your sights high and only go after the best of the best, you are going to get burned a few times. We are simply not going to get every elite recruit, but we will get a bunch of really good players with a good number of elite ones mixed in.

As u can see LSU is not at the top of the list and UGA isnt either. It is a natural occurance for Fla. to get a great class, they have had a great 4 years. It is time for the cycle to flip and I think if you look closely, we along with Auburn are obviously the ugly sisters at the party considering the last few years. Be excited we are within striking distance if Texas, Florida, Alabama and USC because we havent been on the field. That should tell you something about our program:clapping:. IMO

Like the girl you would like to be you girlfriend:eek:lol:

lol...

Waiting on those Elites to start jumping on board.

Let me fix that, Elite. We have one Elite player so far, Bryce Brown.

Not one player on that commit list is Elite, period.

I can set my expectations where I want and right now they are not at my expectation level. If Satan can pull in a #1 class with a bunch of unknown recruiters and 1 good one recruiter on his staff then this staff of "all stars" should be able to be bringing in a lot more big names and getting more than a passing look.

You don't have to bold every team to make your point.

If you read previous and post to that post, I think we finish with a good class just not the caliber of FLA. Plain and simple. Look to the early and mid-90s. They consistently had better talent. Not saying we can't win against them, but their class is scary.

Our program is much better now, without Fulmer. We have good coaching. Not worried about GA or LSU. Worried about BAMA and FLA. The cyclical issue is possible, but not proven.

I think this defenses dramatic dropoff the latter half of the season, and not having much of an offense, has most recruits rather unimpressed.

There is some scant proof that this team is headed in the right direction, but right now, they are still trying to sell a promise. UF, Texas and Bama have a proven product to sell. You can add LSU into that as well.

FSU is the one I'm puzzled about...but then again, they are simply scoring recruits from their own back yard. No real surprise there.

This staff is just going to have to deal with the hand they are given and make the most of it. When they do, then their job will be much easier on the recruiting trail.

This class will be Top 5 by Rivals. If we lose anyone else I'll be concerned but the Willis decommit was expected.

Please tell us, Mr. Recruiting Guru, what your definition of elite is.

There are elite football players on the list. Saban did what he did at AL, which has an advantage in tradition, period.

I can care less about stars, ratings, and rankings in recruiting. Like someone said earlier in the thread. TCU and Boise never have top classes and we were fairly consistent in being in the top 10 with Fulmer. The problem is that there are duds in these rankings and coaches that play the star game cam be totally fooled.

Our 3 star committed LB in the game today ate everyone else's lunch today. Taylor >>> Luc.

I have seen Dyer twice this year now and he looks like a 2-3 star to me. Auburn must be nervous about him also since they are still trying to over recruit him also.

Remember Brian Darden (Mississippi)? Keith(?) Jeter (West Virginia)? Both were top ranked running backs that we took that ended up as duds. We also took a RB from Enterprise Alabama the same year that we got Jamal, Stephens, and Travis Henry. He was just another bust and transferred to Troy.

Chris Donald?

On the other hand:

J.J. McKleskey
Dale Jones
Shawn Bryson
Luke Stocker
Montori Hughes

These kids were not that highly ranked.

I am very happy that we finally have some coaches that know how to evaluate talent. They will make a difference.

We just need to be patient and see what this staff puts together at the end of the recruiting season.
