Overrated Bands

I prefer old Fleetwood Mac (Peter Green iteration) to the radio play version (Nicks/Buckingham) --- by a long shot.

Are there any bands that are just rated?

Seems as if most here think of band/artist X is underrated...bc I like them. Opposite is true for overrated in this thread.

Rename the thread - bands I don't really like so much but others seem to so therefore they are overrated. Followed by bands I really like but not enough other people do so they are underrated...:)

Puddle Of Mudd is the best band ever..

anyone that says pj is overrated has obviously never seen them live. 9 down 1 to go.

*edit* puddle of mudd rules!!!

Godspeed You! Black Emperor is probably the biggest offender for overrated music.

:boredom: alrighty then...

You and GahLee are huge into Pearl Jam. We all get it.

Not everybody puts them on such a high pedestal. One option would be to get worked up about that. Another would be to come to terms with the reality that many reasonably minded music fans just aren't that into your favorite band.

Bryan Adams.. not rated since 1989

Sam Adams lager.. overrated

Throw out a name here for discussion... The White Stripes..

not being into them and being overrated or comparing them to journey are very different. it's all good. i agree that everyone has very different opinions on music for sure. you proved that with your MLB comment.

i have seen many of volinbham's posts and i respect his opinion. if that's the way he feels, so be it.

keep in mind the comparison to Journey - it was about musical talent, # of hits, etc. On those dimensions Journey should be as highly rated as PJ. But that's not what we are doing here - we are arguing based on our own view of what's important. I like PJ better than Journey. In the end though, I don't know that PJ is more important than Journey (whatever that means).

BTW, I saw PJ live at the old Chicago stadium in the mid-90s. Vedder was huge fan of the Bulls (even wearing a Bulls jersey). They put on a great show but I didn't walk away thinking anything other than they were a good band.

The couple Whiskeytown shows I saw where lots of fun. Ryan and the Cardinals were hit or miss live, and sometimes, a complete disaster. Ryan has a rare talent, but he's also got a rare talent at being a prick. He's better now.

Ryan reminds me of Tweedy in so many ways. Watching both of them come up was interesting. Tweedy grew up and has really turned into a showman and is a master at his craft. Ryan is coming of age but still all over the place in his head. Fun seeing him when things are going well.

Tweedy grew up. He's pretty much a professional now. I will agree, though, in the late 90s, Tweedy was as much of a prick as anyone.
