Overrated Bands

They kinda did.

I have to respectfully disagree. I thought OBTN was fantastic, just like I thought Because of the Times was fantastic, just like I thought "A-ha Shake" was fantastic.

I think a song like "Ragoo" from Because of the Times was just as radio-friendly as "Use Somebody"....it just never hit the radio.

Okay, this thread is officially ridiculous.

What the heck is overrated supposed to mean? We have people arguing about what they like, style, how many albums sold, what venues they play at, etc. Until there is at least some common agreement on metric of what the band has done vs. how much praise it receives then we spinning wheels here.

You don't think that even with some sort of a universal metric that we are all going to come to an agreement?

We got a bit off topic when talking about Kings of Leon.

Not universal but at least passing acknowledgment that whether or not you like the band is pretty much irrelevant.

I mean I really don't like the Beatles - find them annoying - but I recognize the impact they had matches the hype.

Yes they did. Listen again.

OBTN was made for drunk frat dudes and chicks. OBTN is completely different than Youth and Young Manhood.

I don't care who is successful and who is not. I want them to make as much money as they can, while they can. But you can't deny that they changed there sound.

I agree on the demographic that they are trying to appeal to.

My brothers daughter loves them...she is 8.

Vehemently disagree - they influenced so many bands and launched a revolution in music. What they produced in terms of music is somewhat irrelevant to the impact they had on music.

Same goes for Nirvana (to a smaller extent).

I agree with all of that but the music just wasn't very good. You can't totally discount the music.

We could use record sales, concert sales, influence, innovation and critical acclaim and then determine whether a band that receives mass media attention backs it up with all of these things.

I still think we would be spinning our wheels, we can't separate the fan in us and take away our bias when it comes to bands that we are passionate about.

Exactly, besides this is fun. Lets not make it a science experiment.

I don't know how official any of this stuff really is...

Ok I got one more and I say this as a fan, The Doors.

Yeah I can get that. Jim Morrison seems so cool that he could probably record Mary Had a Little Lamb with a few f-bombs thrown in and someone would think it's cool.

SRV sounded good doing it, minus the F-bombs.

It's actually part of a series of songs that make one story.

" Alive " where he finds out his dad isn't really his dad...' Once " where he loses his mind and goes crazy and " Footsteps " where he is dealing with what he has done.

mamasan trilogy. What I was saying is that song is the same music.

I'm having a hard time buying this. If the songs were so good they would have made the cut and been on albums not b-sides. This goes for any band not just PJ.

if you've not heard it, give it a listen. alot of it will surprise you. lost dogs.
