I'll put Kings of Leon over Pearl Jam every single day of the week. Kings of Leon is actually my favorite band. I've been on board with KOL since the "A-ha Shake" album.
Also, I may have been one of the few that was onto them back in "A-ha Shake" days, but that is certainly no longer the case. They are, by more than one measurably objective standard, the most popular band in the world at Time == now. I'm surprised that you are so surprised.
I like PJ better than Journey but that is not a measure of talent.
The core members of Journey were former members of Santana. I guarantee that in terms of musicianship they are at least at PJ levels of talent. Judging lyrical ability is difficult. The Beatles wrote some pretty simple songs lyrically but they were huge hits because they struck a chord with the public.
In the end, it seems people keep coming back to what they like - to me that is a different metric than over/under rated.
Okay, this thread is officially ridiculous.
What the heck is overrated supposed to mean? We have people arguing about what they like, style, how many albums sold, what venues they play at, etc. Until there is at least some common agreement on metric of what the band has done vs. how much praise it receives then we spinning wheels here.
Nah, Cornell's voice has been tired for a while now. He's easily 2nd only behind Mike Patton as my favorite vocalist of 90's rock though. But he just doesn't have it anymore.

Please someone agree with me that Sting is overrated!
As a solo artist, yes, because he simply hasn't been that good as a solo artist.
But The Police aren't overrated. In fact, I might be more inclined to call them underrated.
The Verve gets the #1 spot in the underrated category. They were absolutely amazing but very few people know more than just "Bittersweet Symphony". Blondie and Fleetwood Mac also crack the list.
Queen is a bubble pick. They were great, but they do get a lot of historical respect, so calling them underrated is a close call.
Van Morrison and Tom Petty are interesting cases. Both of them get boatloads of respect, but maybe don't get mentioned in a conversation about the greatest artists of all time. And I think they're both on that elite elite level.
And by no means is the above intended to be exhaustive. I just tossed out a couple that came to mind.
New thread? Sure.
now there's something we can agree on. that song is a great tune.
I'm thinking of my friend that I most agree with on music....and I'd say our tastes still diverge about a quarter of the time. Just the nature of the game.
If two people are in total agreeance on music, chances are one of them isn't being honest. But it is refreshing to see that everybody on this board hates Nickelback. I'm still trying to figure out who keeps buying their albums and keeping them in business. Liking Nickelback is something I can't even begin to fathom.
