'17 PA CB Lamont Wade

They pressed Labruzza and they slow play in-state a lot.

I realize that. Anytime we get a kid from LA, the first thing I look for is that LSU offer. We don't often get kids with that offer. Janzen may be the last one.

We will see what happens with all this. Enjoy your posting even if you think I am a catbone part deux.

More like Catbone part deux deux, amirite?

How will we feel if we don't fix the OL dumpster fire and do the same?

Once Hall comes back and the insertion of Jack Jones back into the starting lineup, our o-line play should get immensely better. Let Thomas play a backup role at right tackle behind Hall with Jack Jones at right guard and we have ourselves an SEC offensive line again (I'm hoping Richmond makes strides as well)!

I thought the player degrading (wasn't good anyways) didn't happen until a kid picked someone else?

Wade is visiting Penn St this weekend against mighty Temple.

I will predict that Lamont Wade does not make the trip to Knoxville for Florida or Alabama. I think that the staff believes that Bailey is the better CB for our defense.

Ok. I predict he visits for at least one. Will bump later whether I'm right or wrong.

That's also a fair point but at the same time he has the offer list.

He also seems to have narrowed it down to a few schools and all those schools are still pursuing him. We are pursuing him still as well.

You're not going to convince me this kid isn't a take. If in 3 years he is at Jacksonville State or floundering on the depth chart somewhere, bump this thread and make me eat the crow.

He has an Alabama and Ohio State offer. Cristobal is one of the best recruiters in the business. The guys offer list tells a lot. Its elite. Any guy could be a bust, but offer lists are very telling aspects of a players ability. I am in agreement with you. Wade is an elite recruit.

BB, what specifically about Wade's play is standing out to you as keeping him from 5star status in your eyes?

Shows how legit his interest is in staying near home IMO.

Kid is a 5* competitor at the very least. Every camp I have heard about him attending, the kid just competes his ass off. Rep after rep. Participated in every camp despite having offers from the schools running the camps.

Also, not sure bama is actively recruiting him. osu is, but it's insurance.

What I find very interesting was his quotes after the App St. Game. He said that he felt that he could really help us on offense. This guy and CJ Cottman are listed as CB prospects but both may actually project better on the college level as slot guys. They both lack ideal height at CB but are rediculously explosive with the ball in their hands. Just a thought that may allow us to move Tyler Byrd back to CB. Just me thinking out loud.

I just went back and watched a lot of film on Wade again and he struggled in man coverage against top competition. Can someone work with him technique wise and he improve? Certainly, but I just don't see a top flight cover corner. What I do see is one helluva football player with potential to make an immediate impact somewhere. On defense, I think he could develop into a Bob Sanders type safety. But I see a dangerous utility guy on offense that you can move around in the slot and in the backfield. Once again, just my opinion but I recommend going to YouTube and watching all the highlights you can on this kid.

Here's the 5 star challenge. He's all over it and it's not highlight clips. You judge whatever you want. But that's him and some other highly regarded DBs. I don't how they have him No.1 and he didn't perform highly when playing against the best prospects. Most times CBs ranked in the top 10 dominate in a setting like this. One play in particular he was off the man 12-15 yards and still got beat deep.

I can agree with you on some points. He very well could be used as a utility like player on offense but like you said he might be better off at safety because he has great hitting & tackling skills. I do think he's close to a 5* player. I would give him a 4 1/2* myself! :)

He's not tall though. And I don't see Karl Joseph level explosiveness tackling.

So you want a 5'9 safety to go along with 5'10-5'11 CBs on 6'3+ WRs????? Good luck with that......

Uh..........5'8'-5'11" inch corners & safeties play in college all the time making plays in the secondary for a many teams.

It's not necessarily the height. It's the fight & skillset of the DB. How tall is Cam Sutton? Not very tall either but look how solid of a CB he has become at UT. Thanks!
