Spent 5 years in Richmond, the west end is the place to be. Your wife will love shopping at Ukrops. Best grocery store on the planet.
Downtown is great in "the bottom".

We loved it. Summer concert series in the park. Best schools and live in Hanover county rather than Richmond. Chesterfield is another great community.

Then Short Pump would be a great choice. Trust me, you do not want to live in Chesterfield County and have to drive to Henrico every day. The bridges across the river are the pits at rush hours.
