Pats Stealing Signals?

If you aint cheatin you aint tryin. I bet there's 28-29 other teams that wish they could be as successful as the Pats have been

More important news flash:38-14. Even more important news flash: The Pats have 3 Super Bowl rings doing things Belichick's way.

I'm fine with whatever they want to wear as long as nobody reverts back to the Vince Dooley/Terry Bowden "short sleeved shirt with a tie while wearing a cap and tennis shoes" look.

I heard Terry being interviewed on Maxim Radio today, he said that he'd like to get back to coaching college football.

I don't see that happening again in the foreseeable future. The Vince Dooley look has long since passed.

The vast majority of NFL fans watch the games with one thing in mind: victory for their team.

Well, if that were the only standard, don't you think NFL fans would've given Belichick (who by far most soundly won his opener) an approval rating much higher than 58%, which is lower than some 20 other coaches in the league, many of whom were losers in week 1?

ESPN - NFL Coach Ratings

Calling a football coach who knew the other side was stealing his signs and did nothing to prevent it a "victim of crime" is the height of silliness.

Sportscenter reported Mangini told the Jets of the sign stealing technique when he became HC but this was the first time they caught the Pats doing it.

And what do you think Mangini should've (or could've) done to prevent it?

Have someone other than the defensive coaches being taped relay the signals. It's your stadium, have security jerk the guy up long before halftime. Have a stadium employee go stand in the guy's line of sight. There are about a million more, but you get the picture.

I didn't realize Belichick was coaching every team simultaneously. Wouldn't expect his approval rating to be very high among fans whose teams he's drilling to love him. Show me his approval rating among Patriot fans. That's all that matters.

The fact is that Belichick has to rely on off the field tactics to get an advantage makes him a loser in my book. He has to break league rules to get the advantage? Come on. Clearly if he has no qualms about breaking league rules he has problems. He has been given a set standard to play and win by. he obviously cannot rely on that so he strays outside the boundaries of those rules to get the advantage.

My question is what else has he done? Clearly if he doesn't mind breaking rules in this case, what else has he done? Mangini knows all but because of self-incrimination he probably will leave it to this. If I was Goodell, I'd call in Mangini and a few others and start asking questions. It's just like steroids. People cannot leave it to raw talent and knowledge on the field between the whistles. Everyone's always gotta cheat and try other means to win.

I know Belichick is the best coach in the NFL right now and have great respect for his talent. I do not like him as a person because when he went to the middle of the field after the Colts won last year he gave Peyton a quick hand slap and did not even really look at him. PM is the one guy who deserves at least respect after trying this many years to get over that hump.

The question isn't whether you love a coach. The question is whether you approve his performance as a coach, and for some odd reason, his approval rating at the end of last year was in the 90s but dropped 35 pts this past week.

So, if it wasn't the score of the first game that made them disapprove of his performance, b/c surely everyone would approve of a 24-pt victory, I deduce it was the fact that people disapprove of him cheating.

On the last point, that's like saying the only approval rating that matters when assessing President Bush's performance is right wing Republican religious conservatives.

BB's latest defense is that he wasn't stealing the signals....they were giving them away!

No, it's not the same. Bush's constituency is the entire United States. Belichick, on the other hand, has a duty only to New England fans.

Actually, Belichick's duty is to Bob Kraft or whoever the owner is. The head coach doesn't have to please the fans, if anyone should know that I would think it was you Hat.
