Pearl is a great coach, but two other great coaches for UT are Ray Mears and Don DeVoe. I keep hoping Pearl will bring in DeVoe to teach half court defense to our guys. Hope Pearl will be at UT a long time.

Since BP has been at the reigns:

NCAA TOURNAMENT RECORD FOR CAREER: 23-14

For these reasons above, I believe Bruce should be our coach for a long time.

So if I understand this correctly, the premise is “Since BP has been at the reigns [of UT]. You list numerous UT related accomplishments and then throw in:

NCAA TOURNAMENT RECORD FOR CAREER: 23-14

What does that have to do with his being at the reigns of UT? I suspect it was a deliberate attempt to gloss over the Tournament disappointments while here which I believe for many is the rub. We don't see it getting any better. I for 1 would trade all of those accomplishments for a National Championship.

If we continue to pound Florida I will stay on the bandwagon

I am beginning to believe that this is not a great accomplishment. The more I watch Donovan the more I am beginning to believe that he just caught lighting in a bottle for 2 years and rode the coattails of Noah and the rest of that team.

Since BP has been at the reigns:

School record 31 game season
#1 ranked for first time in UT HISTORY
Back to Back Sweet 16
MADE THE NCAA EVERY YEAR
WON REG SEASON SEC CHAMPIONSHIP
4 20 Win Seasons
HAS WON MORE GAMES THAN ANY OTHER SEC COACH
HAS A WINNING RECORD AGAINST FLORIDA (NC)
RANKS IN THE TOP 5 ACTIVE COACH WINNING %
SEC RECORD IS 87-30
ATTENDANCE IS WAY UP
NCAA TOURNAMENT RECORD FOR CAREER: 23-14

For these reasons above, I believe Bruce should be our coach for a long time.

You left out an important one. He has the second highest winning % as coach of UT men's BB.

One day, somebody is going to give me a legitimate reason as to why Pearl gets to count games at Southern Indiana as part of his D-I winning percentage.

...and we are already taking beating Florida regularly for granted.

Even without the wins from Southern Indiana, he's still at 71%. Not too shabby, and still puts him ahead of everyone in the SEC.

Winning percentage doesn't always translate into a great coach, though.

Fulmer's winning % was used to prop him up for years.

I care a lot more about beating Kentucky than I do Florida, simply for the reason that basketball is the sport at UK, and again....they are our biggest basketball rivial.

I just find it a bit humorous that before Pearl got here, and I mean going back to Mears, beating Kentucky was one of the big objectives and now that Pearl is here and outside of winning his first game at Rupp, he's not done much against them, including 2 blowout losses to the worst UK team in years. And because of that, suddenly around here being 7-1 against Florida is supposed to make us forget a bad Kentucky still owns him.

Florida isn't even our second biggest basketball rival, that would be Vanderbilt. I'd give Pearl more credit for sweeping Vandy twice in his 4 years before I would his record against Florida.

long time reader first time post. let me butt in by saying that without pearl, there would be no ut basketball to speak of. some of you people obviously wish pearl to be gone so that tennessee basketball could return to the prominence that it enjoyed over this past century before he arrived. let me remind you that the level of success that ut fans have recently enjoyed came to us when bruce came to us. think about that

This argument has been played ad nauseum on here. What it discounts is the opportunity cost of Pearl's hire.
