i dont know about others on here but i would take a one and done in the tourney with the highest seed the school has ever had, back to back sweet 16 appearances which has never happened before, and 4 straight trips to the tourney which is rare for the school anyday, over one trip to the elite 8 and missing the tourney the previous 2 years.

see like i said your not gonna budge hat which is fine he is entitled to his own opinion, but i a with you. he is not a psychic he doesnt know the future which neither do i so all anybody has to go off is the past and numbers. the numbers clearly show that pearl is a good coach, and better than anderson or hugs. does he need some more big wins in the tourney and take the next step yea, but so far you cant really complain or say he is gonna be out soon and wont ever take tennessee anywhere. he has done things with ut that nobody else hasfor tennessee in a short amount of time, he has brought them the most wins in 4 years than anyother coach so that says something alone, THE PROGRAM IS HEADED IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION. does that mean things cant change, no but it does mean he has been a great coach for ut and has the program headed the right way.

A trip to #1 that lasted what, 24 hours? It doesn't matter if you're #1 during the season, it's where you are at the end that counts.

What's a high seed matter if you go one and done?

I still haven't figured out the need to brag about Sweet Sixteen appearances. Yay Tennessee went to two of them in a row, wow that's great.

So, you would rather miss the tournament the next two years to make an elite eight 3 yrs from now?

well when nobody else in 100 years of ut basketball history has accomplished any of that i consider it pretty remarkable, and a pretty damn good job.

USC had never made the NCAA Tournament three consecutive seasons until this year. I don't see their fans falling all over themselves to deify Tim.

You said Bruce Pearl is a better coach than Mike Anderson and Bob Huggins. Were it not for the utterly clueless posts that tried to elevate him onto the level of Cal and Self last year, that would be the single most asinine post regarding Pearl's abilities ever foisted upon this board.

I'm not saying he's a bad coach but he's not going down as one of the greats.

I do respect what he's done here but his style of play fails miserably come tournament time

Angry fans. No perspective. Pearl has been nothing but great for this program. Cut him some slack and relax. We were known as football school first, women's basketball next, and then men's basketball. That was until Pearl came along. There were barely 10,000 fans in the stands for a long time before Pearl cam around. 22,000 now on a regular basis. We can't have great seasons every single year. This was our worst season and guess what...we won the SEC East and went to the tournament (we used to looooong for the day that would happen in the past).

Why do we have any exoectations for success in basketball? You can thank Pearl. It's amazing that we can become spoiled within 3-4 years. Would you like us to bring back the old guard of coaching to our basketball program? I vote no.

well im done trying to argue about this its dumb as i previously said nobody is right or wrong on this only time will tell. we will see how wv mizzou and ut do next year then we can have this arguement again.

Speak for yourself...I had expectations that Buzz Peterson should have been able to take this team to the NCAA tournament because I had already witnessed it 4 years in a row under Green.

Yes Green was a complete tool but I would argue those years made it to where we expected to make the tournament. Buzz had enough talent to make it at least 3 of the 4 years if not all 4. Even Green would have taken his first team to the NCAAT, and even Buzz himself almost got his second year there. By his 3rd year I probably no longer expected the NCAAT because I knew Buzz was a horrible coach, but the fact that 2 years later Pearl took the same team Buzz won 13 games with to a #2 seed told me yes, Pearl was able to make chicken salad out of..well you know...but it also told re-enforced how bad Buzz was.

So again...you can act like the expectations appeared with Pearl but I had them a good while before.

I only have problems with people putting Pearl on a pedestal like he's one of the greatest coaches out there.

He's good and he's a hell of a salesman. But Billy Clyde outcoached every time they played yet some on here claim Billy Clyde is overrated, sucks yada yada yada. What does that say about Pearl?

Have a little perspective before making him out to be some great coach.

And why does this "Would you rather have Buzz or Bruce" arguement always come up? No one has said anything good about Buzz, no one is wanting him back.

I like how someone said Tennessee makes an early exit every year despite the ranking... Yeah, because losing in the Sweet 16 is an early exit and all. Hell yall were just one point away from the Elite Eight that one year. Hell, this is the first year he didn't make it at Tennessee, and dude was coaching the underdog team in that game anyway.

Tennessee has a national footprint, and it has EVERYTHING to do with Pearl. He's a media darling, he works his ass off, and he brings Tennessee athletes they haven't had in years. Now sure, this was a down year, but just because it took Pat Summit several decades to have one doesn't mean Pearl isn't allowed to have one. They DO happen, at every level, to every team.

There are other major conference schools that would kill for your last four seasons, and and considering where the program was, you need to remember that. The grass isn't always greener on the other side, ask Kentucky if they're happy about chasing Tubby off now...

I'm sure they're happy about having two bad seasons, and watching the program get set back. Sounds like a plan. Fire Pearl, and give even more money to someone down the line.

And that doesn't even mention the fact that Cal hasn't done anything at UK yet. They were happy about Gillispie too.
