Where was UMW or UT before Pearl? Pearl also landed Hopson. What's your point? Your reasoning for praising BCG could also be applied to Pearl but you choose not to.
Pearl inherited groundwork laid by Bo Ryan(maybe you've hard of him) at Milwaukee. Gillispie inherited goundwork laid by Jason Rabedeaux(see if you can find him now) at UTEP. How many SEC games did Tennessee win in the season before Pearl took over? I'm quite confident it's number considerably more than the 0 A&M won in the year prior to BCG's arrival.

Bruce's best year at UWM was his fourth year when all of Bo Ryan's players would have been gone. He went 26-6 and 14-2 in the conference while making the sweet 16. Pretty good for a salesman.

30-27 with going 4th and 5th in the Horizon League isn't terribly impressive for Mr. Ryan. Bruce had the benefit of taking over teams that were marginally better than BCG but the results have been very similar. I'm still failing to see how Gillispie's recruiting impresses you but not Pearl's. I'm sure we'd both agree that UTK is a tougher sell in basketball so CBP's recruiting is more impressive to me.

Kentucky wasn't in on PP before CBG got there - and he reeled him in a matter of months... he was the top unsigned recruit left and top 5 in the nation. CBG is a better recruiter than Pearl is.

He's also got good classes lined up for the future.

Scotty Hopson was committed to Miss. State for months, and it wasn't until we lost Elliot Williams to Duke that we went after him hard and got him. I would imagine that Kentucky is a little easier sell in basketball than Tennessee. So, I would seriously doubt that CBG could have come to Tennessee and recruited as well as Pearl.

Impressive enough to get him a job at a school that was only a couple of seasons removed from the Final Four when they hired him. Using that logic, poor Jerry Green really got the shaft at UT. Look at his results compared to the two prior seasons.

What a worthless bunch of silliness. Bruce Pearl is a great coach! That is all that needs to be said. The rest of the BS on this post is otherwise worthless.

I don't seem to be able to capture the lead on your post, but of course noted that you claimed that Pearl is simply unquestionably great and that rest of the thread was "studid."

I got a good laugh out of that.

I'm a fan of Pearl's but no he's not.

Pearl is a fine coach. Just because hat has a stick up his butt when it comes to Pearl doesn't mean he's always right. But i forgot there is a group on this forum that would ask Hat what to do if it burned when they peed.

In two, three years tops, I'll be calling roll of all the folks who put forth that sentiment. It will look a whole lot like the culling of the Fulmerites from October 2008.

It's more of a tingle at this point but if it progresses at least I now know who to talk to.

I'm also going to put you on the list of people who think Wayne and Tyler will have prosperous NBA careers. :)

1) I never said prosperous.

2) I am more than happy to be called out when I am wrong. I can admit my errors.

If that's the case, there are about 75 great coaches in D-I. Excellence must not be as exclusive these days.

Can you list the other 74 that have 3 total Sweet 16s at two different schools?

If that's going to be the standard, you do realize John Brady and Steve Fisher both have resumes that will trump Pearl, don't you? What does being at more than one school have to do with anything? If that is so important, Bill Self is arguably the greatest coach ever.

Steve Lavin made a bunch of Sweet 16s. That shows what an accomplishment it is.

Yes, and he made them at UCLA not UWM and Tennessee (slightly better tradition there). And yes, there is something impressive at being successful at multiple schools. Obviously, Bill Self is an example of this, but Rick Pitino is the most obvious choice. Is it impressive that he has made final fours with 3 different teams? Yes. Bruce Pearl obviously hasn't reached that type of level of success and might not ever reach it, but this constant battle to make him out to be some mediocre coach is ridiculous and just shows that some on this board have some sort of weird hatred for Bruce Pearl.
