With all due respect, saying that reaching multiple Sweet 16s at different schools is nothing special is idiotic. And I'm still waiting for that huge list of coaches with better resumes than Pearl.

Who said anything about resumes? However, since that's what you want to do, you can start the list of those ahead of Pearl with every active coach who has participated in an Elite Eight. That'll get the list off to a hefty start. Let's start with Stan Heath. Actually, since you want to go with resumes, Bruce is third in his own state. With all due respect, saying that reaching multiple Sweet 16s at different schools is nothing special is idiotic. How's his fourth year at Tennessee, with a roster filled with nothing but his recruits, going?Bruce's best year at UWM was his fourth year when all of Bo Ryan's players would have been gone. He went 26-6 and 14-2 in the conference while making the sweet 16. Pretty good for a salesman.
Scotty Hopson was committed to Miss. State for months, and it wasn't until we lost Elliot Williams to Duke that we went after him hard and got him.

I would imagine that Kentucky is a little easier sell in basketball than Tennessee. So, I would seriously doubt that CBG could have come to Tennessee and recruited as well as Pearl.
Bruce Pearl had been the coach for 3 years and we WERE in the running for Scotty Hopson BEFORE he committed to MSU so its a big difference since it was a brand new coach coming in and recruiting a kid he had never talked to before.
Well - for one - Liggins is a 5-star despite his struggles.... and Darius Miller won the Kentucky player of the year award over Scotty (but I think that may have been more political than it should have been since they knew he wasn't coming to UK - but Miller is still very good).
They've already signed Daniel Hood (4-star, solid shooter who we were going after as well) and a major stud in Daniel Orton. If PP stays next year - that will be the best front line in the SEC any one of the better ones in the NCAA if they can get them both on the floor.
And I will be surprised if his 2010 class doesn't shape up to be nothing short of great with Dominique Ferguson being a major headliner who will probably end up a 5-star guy (or stay one depending on where you look).
I don't like CBG at all and would like to see him fall flat on his face (mainly because he's at UK not because I don't care for the guy), but it is only a matter of time till he gets some major talent in there and it will cover up whatever flaws he has as a coach now I would assume and we'll start to see how good of a coach he can be... that is if Kentucky does the smart thing and doesn't get rid of the guy too early.
Also - Alex Legion was I think a 5-star... but atleast a 4-star... but he obviously didn't pan out - but not all of these guys do. I have no idea where Legion is now.

So, basically he is holding the in-state talent at UK. Legion is at Illinois now. The Orton kid does look like a stud, but Tennessee is also recruiting well, and our 2010 class is ranked 6th by Rivals, and Kentucky's is not in the top 10.
It's not that I am being optimistic. That class will be top 10. We already have 2 top 30 commits, a 3 star PG committed, and are in the lead for Isaiah Sykes (who will be a high 4/low 5 star recruit).
I know. It's just funny that you have two groups of people, one on each side of the Pearl argument. While I am pro-Pearl, I can at lease acknowledge some of his weaknesses/poor performances. Most of the others on the anti-Pearl side are steadfast in highlighting the negative as much as possible and dismissing the positive as happenstance or luck. We have a coach in town that is scheduling difficult non-conference games, winning at a high percentage, and taking us to the NCAA every year. He's also got people excited about the program. I just refuse to let one bad year make me think he's doomed and will be gone before 2012.
maybe you should take the time to look at some of the comments. Many concerns aren't about the results as much as they are the coaching that is evident in the play. It has been evident from day 1, but very few commented on it. Now that more light has been shed, more people are concerned with what's being taught or demanded. One subpar year and this board goes to hell in a handbasket...and subpar will even get us in the tourney. Is this conversation really happening? I've seen enough of Buzz ball to know that it could be a lot worse. Not to say I don't demand better, but man, you people get your panties in a wad quickly.

How he compares to previous coaches is utterly irrelevant. The issue is how he stacks up to the coaches we're competing with for recruits and championships.I think it's glaringly obvious that Pearl's play is predicated on speed/three point shooting, both of which have been missing this year. His biggest mistake was slowing the game down and stifling the athleticism of our players. I think you could see that he picked up the pace in Wednesday's game, and it worked.
The fact that he slowed us down so much is my biggest qualm with him this year, but I'm also not ready to start doubting his coaching ability in comparison to that of our previous coaching staffs.
