Pearl Grants Griffith's Wish

Why is he not a great athlete? Because he is country and white? I believe he played QB? Safety? He has guarded well at times, including Kimba Walker. He had 9 pts and 6 rebs in a recent game. I don't think he is the answer but the bs of him not being athletic is nonsense. He just needs to relax and not try so hard.

because he isn't quick, can't jump and doesn't appear very strong.

He hasn't ever guarded well. If you think he had some success in guarding Walker, you need to re-watch the game. He breaks down to guard and calls for help. That's not defense.

I don't care what his stats were in any game. He's not very athletic and he's not going to fare well at the point.

I played a lot of positions in a lot of sports that would lead you to believe I'm athletic, but I'm not. I worked harder than everyone else, have good hand /eye and could think. I could defend some by being smart and disciplined, but that had nothing to do with my lack of footspeed or leaping ability.

The trying too hard thing is idiotic. Everyone is trying hard. If it's a hindrance to your play, you simply suck.

Do not get. Revise to English, please.

Translation - If you say he is a limited athlete, he must be limited not only against SEC competition, but also against Tennessee High School District 2-AA talent as well. An underlying assumption that he can be great athlete against 2-AA talent yet limited against roughly 132 of the best athletes in America can not be assumed.

Translation. If you say he is a limited athlete you are making a broad statement. If you say he is a limited athlete comparted to SEC competition you are narrowing your reference point.

I'm pretty sure that everyone else in the conversation understood that the SEC competition point was implied.

That's not what you said. It might be what you meant, but wasn't what you typed.

Odd that you'd have to restate it so it could be clear. Hmmmm.

What the hell did you think I was talking about in terms of his athletic ability? We were actually talking about him playing PG at UT. I don't give a crap if he can win a pickup game at the civic center.

Have you ever stood next to Skylar? He's not weak or skinny. And the trying too hard deal is idiotic? Obviously, you have never been in a shooting slump (or hitting slump in baseball) on any level because you would realize that when you try to hard to make a shot it takes away from the natural ability to make a shot within the flow of the game. Everytime you get ready to shoot you are thinking "I gotta make this" before you pull the trigger. That's not how basketball is played. That's trying too hard. Basketball is about being quick, but not in a hurry. Confidence and composure are keys. If you are trying too hard, you become stiff and lose your instincts.

no, I was referencing his athletic ability in comparison to my son's K-2 team and how he might fare against them. Why would we be referencing his ability in relation to SEC basketball. Makes no sense.

I read what you type. If you want it to be known what you mean, type it.

So he's trying really hard and he still sucks?

You didn't reference anything. You said he has limited athletic ability and that is why he isn't a good/consistent shooter.

no it isn't. It's that he has very limited athletic ability, so he's limited to shooting. As a shooter, he has a left body lean when he goes up and that will breed enormous inconsistency. If our staff doesn't address it, he'll keep throwing bricks.

I don't see a reference to any level of competition here. Please show it to me.

two years with a couple of games of good shooting means the good nights were the anomaly, not the horrendous ones.

I promise you I have been in slumps and understand how it works. If the silliness you're citing about "I gotta make this" is true, he's never going to be a shooter and we need to move on.

Basketball is played by people who can play. It's lost by those "trying too hard."

At busting 3's, yes. His mechanics are flawed. He also comes in as a "shooter". I think playing pg may help him shoot better because he won't have time to think about it first if he gets a shot.

what? Position on the floor will get rid of "I gotta make this?" Sounds crazy.
