Pearl Grants Griffith's Wish

I don't think he will initiate it but I hope the O runs through him and Tobias (with some BW). Just have McBee get the ball across halfcourt and put it in their hands

They need to be taking 90% of the shots at this point.

And JP Prince is about 1000x more capable of actually running the point than McBee.

I mean, the point position isn't producing. That's obvious. I suppose I should commend Pearl for trying to be proactive. I don't know. If he goes out there and drills the 3-ball at a 50 percent clip then this works. If he doesn't, then out halfcourt offense becomes even more inept.

Just seems like a last hurrah from the staff way to early with some weaker competition coming up.

UT doesn't necessarily need him to create his on shots, or drive to the rim to score. He just needs to create plays for other players. He doesn't turn the ball over a lot, and with his limited minutes compared to other players to say he can't shoot is not fair. He has a better 3pt % than Tatum and Golden and very similar to Harris'.

I get what you're saying, but against a competent coach, this is very unrealistic. Sure, he has decent handles and an ok shot, but his inability to consistently shoot would move defenses to play off him. Assuming he actually would be good at everything but scoring (a huge assumption), he would only be a good option the 1 out of 4 games he can shoot. His 3 point % is abysmal considering that's the reason he has a free ride.

To be honest, it's really starting to piss me off how often this staff seems to overlook Josh Bone. I mean honestly, I'd much rather have him at the point than McBee.

I guess the "move JP Prince to point" move in the 2008 tournament is racing through my mind as this being a "we have no other move to make" type move.

I thought about this yesterday.

Based on his comments about Goins, I think Pearl is looking for someone who can run the called plays and distribute the ball from the point position. I'm not sure McBee is the answer, but I don't have a problem with Pearl trying to shake things up a bit. If nothing else, maybe he gets Goins' attention.

everyone who says Mcbee doesn't play defense is not actually watching him play. You just get on these boards and watch everyone else complain and join in. He's quicker than alot of our guards at man to man defense, and he fights like hell to get through screens. When he's in the game just watch him for an entire defensive possesion and then tell me he's a liabilty. Don't come back here and tell me he got beat once because that happens to everybody.

This season is in full crash and burn mode. They are looking at needing some season-ending upset wins to make the NIT tournament. The schedule is brutal for a team on a three game losing streak.

Pearl changing the lineup is the only option. Bashing him for making a change in personnel is supporting staying the same - which is a losing streak tailspin.

Interchanging underachieving players at this point is only trying to get a spark from someone. Doing nothing is not an option despite those clamoring that McBee sucks. It's pretty obvious they all suck at this point.

Seriously?

Seriously?

We're .500 in a crappy conference. We'd be lucky to finish 3-3 in our last 6 games. If we go 2-4, which is very possible, we're toast.

The committee will look at UT as a team that started strong, but is a completely flop down the stretch. Those teams watch the dance on TV.

We may miss the NCAA, but there is no way we don't go to the NIT.

I didn't say that he was. Just offering up comparable statistics.

So the fact that McBee (who consequently was brought in to drill the outside shot as his #1 objective) is shooting at a lower percentage from three than Harris doesn't suggest to you that he is not filling the role he was brought in for?

Again. You're pretty good at offering up completely irrelevant comparisons. The only reason that McBee is in the game is because he supposedly can shoot. That situation is not at all comparable to Harris or McBee.

Do you really think Mcbee, a walk-on, was brought in to drill 3s on a regular basis? I think McBee has been brought in to eat up a few minutes at times to rest the starters. He may do a terrible job at PG. I don't know, I am going to wait and see before I bash the kid. Maybe that isn't your style.

McBee was more of a greyshirt than a true walk-on. This isn't really a Nick Reviez kind of story

HE'S EARNED A SCHOLARSHIP!!!!

And to answer your question - YES!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why else would he be here?

How is presenting facts and saying he's not doing what his job on the court is bashing a kid?

How is comparing their 3pt statistics irrelevant? I didn't say that was Harris' role, and that it wasn't McBee's role. All I have said from the beginning is that I am all for a little change up if it gets Goins' head out of his butt and makes him play better. I don't think McBee is the answer to the PG problem. I'm sorry that I don't share your opinion and that pisses you off. I don't have to agree with you, and you don't have to agree with me. Move on.

Presenting facts isn't bashing the kid, but going on and on about how we are doomed if he plays PG is. Yea he didn't earn a scholarship, which is why he isn't the terrible player you and others go on about. If you know anything about shooting you know it is about getting into a ryhtym. You don't get into a rythym playing as little as McBee does, ecspecially coming off of the bench.

I couldn't care less if you agreed with me. In fact, judging by your posts, if I found myself agreeing with you, I'd be concerned. I'm just pointing out that your comparisons are completely irrelevant to the issue here.

His #1 job on the court is to hit the three. Period. That is his role. He's shooting 30%. He's not fulfilling his role well at all.
