Lying is the issue here MHF. We could all accept too many phone calls or text messages unless it was a wide-spread practice, but lying under oath to the NCAA is too much to simply write off as not serious. As a proclaimed attorney, you should be aware of this.
I suppose you are not an attorney so I should not laugh too hard...
Under oath...hahahhah....unlike Bill Clinton he was not under oath, and not guilty of perjury.
More speculation from you... surprising.
Exactly how did he know the NCAA was going to say he was lying? Did he somehow ease in on a conversation?
Since we're speculating, I believe he realized that he made a minor problem that would've resulted in only a slap on the hand into a major problem by lying and thus admitted it.
Bruce Pearl and his staff have no credibility whatsoever. The accomplishments that they attained, though great, have now been completely overshadowed by this recent event. As an alum, it makes me sick to think about how he has disgraced our University, our Athletic department, and the athletes he has on this current team.
All of you that ***** and whine about Calipari can now shut up. The fact is, we were cheating and trying to cover it up. This makes Pearl no better than anything anyone has accused Cal of doing.
In my opinion, Pearl should be on very, very shaky ground. Any misstep now should result in his termination. And I wouldn't be too upset if he was terminated as a result of this. This is truly sickening and sad day for UT athletics.

Is it speculating that he said his conscience got to him after two years of knowing cheating, that he thinks was to give an advantage in recruiting and he suddenly was conscience stricken after two years. Give me a break. The official letter of inquiry let him know that his lies were not acchepted by the NCAA and he suddenly decided to come clean to try to keep his job. After all, he loves UT and wants to coach there the rest of his life---not unlike anyone else would want him now.
Here is my problem with the fanbase as a whole. Posters will pick person A or person B and take the argument of whichever side it benefits. I have seen countless "Kiffin was going to get us in trouble with his doings" because they are still butthurt over leaving for his destination job yet the same people that yell cheater come to the defense of Pearl because he admitted he lied because he was backed into a corner? Really?
It just reeks of hypocrisy and playing favorites. It's ironic we call ESPN bias against us when we can't even step away from our orange glasses and give a unbiased view of a situation.Im not anti-Bruce, he messed up and has a chance to redeem himself, but this whole shoving it under the rug minutes after the fire alarm went off just makes alot of you look weaksauce.
The very nature of this thread is laughable in every sense of the word, the OP doesn't have a clue what he is talking about.
To act as if Pearl is leading the University into the sh%tter is moronic.
I guess he ( and anyone else who shares his line of thinking ) thinks that there are a bunch of choir boys walking around. Recruiting is a nasty business and everyone toes the line and everyone steps across it.
Now with that said, what Pearl and his staff did is dumb, they should have been upfront when asked about it.
But to pretend like he is the scum of the Earth for it is crazy, an obvious agenda.

i have never heard of coaches beig paid less money. and i am a fan of all our sports. just disappointed with this cheating. how can pat summit recruit top players for 30 yrs and not get busted or phil for 17 yrs. because they did it the old fashion right way. no razzle dazzle like kiffin and pearl. i am starting to believe only a home grown tennesean cn really sell a kid on the right reasons to come here. not just the con artist tactics of a young ounk and car sallesman crap of pearl. they went way overboard to fit in at first and now look. this makes me like dooley more. he just wants to do a great job and be himself.
