What does Jay Bilas being a former Duke player have to do with him now being an analyst and bashing everyone involved because Bruce Pearl lied to the NCAA? If K lied to the NCAA, he'd be getting his too.
Bilas is a former player, coach, is a licensed attorney, and has been working for ESPN for awhile. If you've read much of his stuff, you'll find that he thinks about issues and speaks his mind. You may not agree, and he's okay with that. He respects your opinion and wants you to respect his, regardless of whether you agree.
That said, his opinions on NCAA regulatory matters should hold weight. When he says the NCAA rulebook needs to be shredded and replaced with one that makes sense, he gives reasons. When Jay says the actions Slive took were stupid, he explains why. He said the NCAA hasn't even completed its deliberations. Why would Slive impose his own ludicrous, random punishment? It's tantamount to a prosecutor imposing punishment before the judge has made his ruling.
To make matters worse, the NCAA (like the judge) will decide ON ITS OWN what punishment should be rendered to Pearl and UT - INDEPENDENT of Slive.
So ... Other than attempting to take the camera glare off of Cam Newton, what has Slive accomplished with Pearl's suspension?
Nothing!!
I agree with Jay ...
THAT truly qualifies as stupid.
