Pearl to Iowa??

66,000 more tickets.

Do the math.

Let's see......

In 2007 we had 16 home games. Luckily for SB in 2000 we had 16 home games as well as I don't know if he factored that in in more tickets sold argument.

66000/16 = 4125. So almost half of the amount of tickets sold as what SB said.

Ticket prices in 07 for upper deck seats were $9 a ticket. True UT fans know that lower deck seats, while empty, have not been available for years so we cannot use lower deck ticket costs. So, 66,000 times 9 = 594,000. (We'll not factor in student tickets in this which at the time were free and probably lowers the number down closer to the 60K range or lower of paid tickets.)

So 594,000 profit over 2000. I believe Green made somewhere in the 700K range in 2000 and Pearl made around $1.3 million in 07. So that's a 600K increase in salary. Ummmmmmm.........

$9 a ticket? Are you sure? As I recall, a non-conference home game, except for probably Texas, was pretty cheap in 2007, but not that cheap. And, the SEC games cost more. Unless you're talking about the Lady Vols, I don't recall getting in for $9 for any game.

And, don't forget concessions. Buzz won't. LOL

I've still got a few ticket stubs I use as bookmarks. I'll go back and check tonight, but I'm pretty sure they were $9 in 07.

Pearl, over the course of his 5 seasons has not only had a flash of brilliance like Green did for one season (as far as attendance goes), he has sustained that level of enthusiasm throughout the fanbase and the butts have been filling the seats throughout his tenure because of this.

In addition, the 600k difference in salary is relative to inflation and the overall increase in coaching salaries over the past decade (I challenge you to find a big time coach currently in the NCAA that is making 700k or less). By big time coach I mean a coach whose team has been in the NCAA Tournament 5 years in a row.

Also, the prices for the new luxury suites more than compensate for the salary that Pearl makes. I don't know how much each box costs, but to put it into perspective, the football boxes cost well over six figures per season.

Your argument that Pearl is overpaid and does the same job that Green did, but is costing us 600k more per year fails sir.

I don't really like your definition of "big time" but you are correct, you would be hard pressed to find anyone worth a damn that makes in the 700K neighborhood at a major d1 school

However, what would you pay a coach like Jerry Green right now? Pearl has had similar results and makes a lot more than 1.3 mil now.

At some point, people are going to have to get over the Green-Pearl analogies. Green lived off of the O'Neill's players and was fired before he sabotaged the program with recruiting players like Andy Ikeakor. He was a decent X and O guy, but had zero personality and his players quit on him because they hated him (There's not a chance in hell Pearl's kids lose to SW Missouri St. by 30) Pearl is on his fifth year and the trend appears to be on an upswing looking at recruiting, no Andy Ikeakors or even Brandon Crumps on the horizon.

Fact is, yes, Pearl is not the only guyy who could take the Vols to the Sweet 16, obviously. Regardless, he's done a fantastic job here and I don't see the point in getting The Grass is Greener syndrome. It's like having a great girlfriend and then dumping her because you think you can date a supermodel.

That would assume the renovations are paid off, along with the practice facility. Maybe it is, I don't know?

Nobody is talking about getting rid of him just to get rid of him. If Iowa makes a run at him it will have to be at least 3 Mil and he's simply not worth it.

That would be a significant increase over Lickliter’s $1.2M per. How deep are Iowa’s pockets?

Probably been mentioned before, but if Iowa can't get who they want, Keno Davis is probably who they go after.

No, my argument was that the athletic department isn't rolling in dough because of Pearl and that he essentially pays for himself.

Argument #2 was that anytime the team wins that more people go to the games, I don't care if Wade Houston comes back for round 2 and accomplishes it. My buddy SaintBruce kept comparing Pearl to the Buzz years so I asked for a comparison of the two SEC/Sweet 16 teams for a more fitting comparison. Perhaps if you would read an entire thread you would understand the argument.

#3 - I am well aware of the luxury boxes and the revenue they provide. Maybe in the near future they will provide enough to pay for themselves. I am fairly certain they do not cost 6 figures, but I could be wrong.

By the way - I checked. At least for Kentucky on March 2, 2008, Section 318 row 10 seat 7 was a $9 ticket.

I seriously doubt that we would have to fork over $3 million. Fans always overstate what their school can afford and I can't see Iowa, of all places, forcing us into a decision to make Pearl the second highest paid coach in America.

However, there is a sentiment on this board by a few that losing Pearl wouldn't be that big a deal, we'd just find one of the dozens of coaches who could do exactly the same thing Pearl has/could do at UT. It's baloney, coaches who average 25 wins a year don't grow on trees.

First, Bruce has done the heavy lifting, so it doesn't have to be done again. Getting our AD committed to hoops and getting our fanbase to prove it's merited was a big deal. We don't need it again. Our university now knows we will support basketball in a big way.

Second, the number of 25 game winners this year is probably 40+.

I believe he makes $2.5 Mil now, he's not going to leave for Iowa for 2.7 Mil.

Do I think we could hire a coach for $2.5 to $3 Mil to make the Sweet 16? Yes.
