Still pissed every time I remember the end of that game and how it was stolen from us.Barnes hasn’t been to an Elite 8 because the refs in the 2019 Purdue game made 5 incorrect calls/non-calls on the final regulation possession that all went against Tennessee and any one of which, if called correctly, puts Tennessee in the E8.
No, he hasn’t been to an E8 at Tennessee, but he’s earned one.
So Pearl has nothing on Barnes.
The only thing Pearl did better was go farther in the dance, go to the dance a higher % of the time, make it out of the first weekend a higher % of the time.Who do you think has done a better job as coach here? Personally I gotta go with Barnes the only thing Pearl has over Barnes is he got us to the elite eight. Barnes might do something this season that Pearl never did in getting us to the Final Four along with earning a number one seed. Yes an argument could be made that Pearl made our basketball program relevant again after years of wondering in the wasteland but didn’t Jerry Green also do that he just never gets much credit. Plus Pearl is a lying sleeze bag, Barnes isn’t and has way more class than Pearl. I have to admit I enjoyed the Pearl years but I cannot stand the guy now.
Hey Vol Fan, your team just won the SEC in one of its best seasons ever and is likely to receive a #1 seed for the first time in history! What part of that amazing accomplishment would you like to discuss???
Let's discuss Bruce Pearl
Really? I'd argue they are both pretty similar recruiters, but it feels like Barnes does a lot more to coax talent out of kids.I feel Pearl get's more out of his players but Barnes recruits better.
This times a million. You could even argue Pearl did less with more. He got huge recruiting classes and didn’t put up the consistency of high level basketball that Barnes has had. No one was recruiting Alexander, Admiral, Grant, Bowden, Fulkerson, ect and that team was incredibly good. Like number 1 in the country for over a month, good.Really? I'd argue they are both pretty similar recruiters, but it feels like Barnes does a lot more to coax talent out of kids.
Pearl got a lot of mileage out of lower recruited guys like Lofton, J. Smith, and maybe Dane Bradshaw and Brian Williams to lesser extents, but who else did he really coach up at Tennessee?
Major Wingate, Wayne Chism, JP Prince, Tyler Smith, Ramar Smith, Duke Crews, Scotty Hopson, Cam Tatum, Kenny Hall, Renaldo Woolridge, Tobias Harris, Trae Golden, Jordan McRae, Jeronne Maymon...those guys were all top-100 players, and several of them were disappointing for one reason or another.
Barnes made a whole lot out of Kevin Punter, Armani Moore, Admiral Schofield, Grant Williams, Lamonte Turner, Jordan Bowden, Jordan Bone, John Fulkerson, Kyle Alexander, Yves Pons, Santiago Vescovi, Olivier Nkamhoua, Victor Bailey, Zakai Zeigler, Tobe Awaka...none of whom were top-100 players.
