I'm not gonna knock Pearl. He came here when we were in deep, deep trouble. Others didn't want to come. It was a very bad time. We were picked LAST his first year and he won the SEC. Over the next few years he took us where we had never been before. He left us much better off than he found us. The man can flat coach. He is definitely one of the top 3 coaches in the SEC. Auburn went from a cellar dweller to a contender in one year and they will stay there as long as Pearl is there.

What Pearl did was bring a program that had been mediocre for only 3 years(Buzz) and brought a style of coaching & play we hadnā€™t seen since early DeVoe days. Was exciting to watch and he is very likable. It wasnā€™t like it we had been bad for 7/8 years.
Green was handed a program loaded with almost every good player the state of Tennessee had (except for Mercer I think) thanks to Kevin Oneils terrific recruiting. He had a terrific team but wasnā€™t much of a coach. They shouldā€™ve made a few Elite 8ā€™s.
Barnes took over a similar situation as Pearl imho. But not only did hiring Barnes instantly bring credibility to Bball program but he also was the hire that started to stabilize Tennessee Athletics as a whole. He has kids you WANT to root for. I canā€™t think of a single knucklehead heā€™s had. Itā€™s Barnes all the way

They were in the NCAAT 3 years prior to his arrival, thereā€™s no excuse to be 0/4 in todays game. The ACC has also turned into a joke, thatā€™s like the 4th best league, maybe 5th, trying to use that in his defense actually does the opposite.

Agree with most of this except I believe Barnes walked into a much worse situation

Pearl would still be here if UT ad had backed him over a stupid bbq.

Barnes would be at UCLA if they had offered more.

I havenā€™t been able to have an elite 8 party at my house under Barnes yet. Did under Pearl.

Hope this year I finally can.

They tried to back him and he immediately violated directed edicts. It's Pearl's fault he isn't here anymore and that's because of what he did AFTER the BBQ

Pearl lied to his UT bosses as well as the NCAA. He has nobody to blame but himself.

Thatā€™s fair but letā€™s not act like Barnes loves UT and wasnā€™t trying to get the UCLA job. Heā€™s a hired coach. This is just another job to him. He doesnā€™t bleed orange. And yes, I think this team gets bounced sweet 16 like all his other teams do and if they donā€™t I will be gladly shocked and say I was wrong.

You know elite 8 parties are not really a thing right ? You say it like itā€™s a big deal. And we would likely have been there last year had ZZ not got injured.

The SEC regular season championship is just as revealing in a league like the SEC this year as an elite 8 run. Would you rather we had gone 20-10 with a 4th place finish and then make the elite 8? Our season isn't done until we get to the FF
