Pearl's Already Gone: The Exit Strategy Hypothesis

MH batting 1.000%? Well that's an opinion, and I respect that. I love UT, too. No wonder you believe the next coach will be exceptional. I see the state of our football program and baseball program as both declining under the direction of MH-both were better when he got here than where they are now. Sting of bad luck for sure.

Said 100pct in bball. He hired 1 bball coach and he has been good, so good that you want to keep him in spite of all the damage he is doing to the program that according to you didn't exist before he came. We ara talking bball, and he is 100 pct in bball. Keep spinning my words though

Also, MH likely won't make the hire so why do you focus on him? You totally ignore Pearl's actions. I think MH should go too, but MH has nothing to do with Pearl deserving to be fired. You try real hard to deflect off the real issue

Actually posting in response to tvolsfan, and your post came before i could type it. Sorry that you got your gown over your head for nothing.

Pearl gone, MH gone, anyone else? And in whom are we to place the confidence about this great new basketball hire?

I guess you don`t remember all the good hires before Pearl!

Once again, Doug Dickey is gone. The current AD hired the hero of so many on this board. You would be shocked if you knew the coaches that would have come to UT during the Dickey years. It is well documented that he didn't want basketball to succeed too much at UT.

The average Tennessee fan off the street ought to be able to identify half a dozen good candidates, given a couple of days' research. This is not football. There are lots of guys out there. Then you start at the top of the list, show him your video of our facilities and your suitcase full of money, and if he turns you down, you move on to the next guy.

Dickey screwed it up repeatedly not because it's hard, but because he didn't care.

Have a good night! Not a hater at all, just a guy that loves UT more than any coach.

"Hater" and "fail" are the two worst words on the internet. For a lot of keyboard commandos, they've replaced even the most half-assed attempt at actual debate. If you're calling someone a "hater" all the time, it's probably because you don't have any actual points to make.

That's the amazing thing. Even with his total apathy, the only thing that prevented Dickey from making one of the all time great hires was he underestimated his fanbase.

That's what you get when you have an AD with a football-only mentality; he assumed people would react to a basketball coach from Oral Roberts in the same way they'd react to, say, a football coach from Louisiana Tech. He couldn't be bothered to learn enough about basketball to understand that it's a totally different animal.

Mind-boggling to imagine how different things might have gone if he'd pulled the trigger on that one.

I know his back was against the wall at the time, but if Hammy couldn't sell our football program to a coach, how do we expect him to sell our basketball program? I have absolutely no faith in his ability to sell UT.

I can't really rip Hamilton's salesmanship. We may never see a big time program in a worse position to woo a big time coach than Tennessee football in January 2010.

No kidding. "Hello, coach. Come to beautiful Tennessee. You'll get a roster that's basically the equivalent of being on probation, and the kids will be on their third coach in three years. You have no QB and both lines suck. You have a really hard schedule the next couple of years and the fanbase is already pissed off and expects to win almost immediately. Plus you'll only have a couple of weeks to salvage a recruiting class or dig yourself an even deeper hole, and as a bonus, you'll be walking out on your current school at the absolute worst time possible. How about it?"

I didn't say he got everything right. I'm just saying I do think he can make a good hire. I don't really think he should get another chance, but I think he can do all right.

The only thing that would have made the sales job harder is if the stadium and football offices had been infested with asbestos and lead paint and were scheduled for demolition prior to the season.

Who was this Oral Roberts coach? Did a search and couldn't find a list of their past coaches and had no relation to Tennessee back then.

"Also, your two biggest rivals are coached by arguably the two best coaches in the country who have won 3 of the last 4 national titles and gone a combined 52-4 over the last 2 seasons."
