Pearl's Already Gone: The Exit Strategy Hypothesis

That's the only thing that makes sense. I was just thinking we didn't have time to run an AD search and then have the new AD run a coaching search. But if we already have an internal hire. . .

Oops, didn't see your post before typing mine. Great minds think alike! Haha

Hamilton isn't making any hire. Whether he stays or goes, he isn't making hires.

Plus effing 8.

There are two balls in the air right now. Mostly independent, but not totally.

Careful not to drop one and have someone else pick it up.

IMO, UT won't hire a new coach, then fire Hamilton. Harder to hire a new AD knowing that he (or she) would be handcuffed to an unproven commodity (success at UT) entering an unknown situation (NCAA). Not exactly the same circumstances, but Miami (and the recently resigned AD) got some egg on their faces for hiring Golden, then the AD jumped ship to Texas Tech. Was rumored that could have been why Tuberville didn't get an interview at Miami. The Miami AD (at the time) perhaps knew he was interested in, or a strong candidate for, the Texas Tech job and wanted Tuberville to remain in Lubbock. I'm a big fan of Dooley, but there is no guarantee he'll ultimately succeed at UT, but the football program couldn't handle another abrupt change so he's safe for a couple of years, new AD or not. If Hamilton is out, he'll be shown the door at the same time as Pearl, leaving the incoming AD some level of input on the new basketball coach. JMO

Is it possible that the new AD is at UT already and signed off on candidates? For example, could they already have a plan for Holloway to take over and have a desired hire? Just hypothetically?

Holloway will never be the AD. doens't have close to the background to do that job

I'm a little bit confused. So if it's been offered, Hammy is safe. But if not, he's not safe? Are we really going to change ADs before a new hire is made? Or am I just missing something?

Would be better if you were going to have a new AD to let him make the new BB hire (assuming all happens :)

No. He's saying that Pearl is gone, and he thinks Hamilton will be gone. He's saying that he doubts we have a new head coach picked because he thinks that would be a job for the new AD, not the one who would be forced out for incompetence. I'm not saying Hamilton would blow the hire, but if you were kicking him out, it wouldn't make sense to let him make the hire. It would be like firing your GM for being an idiot but letting him make your picks for the draft.

this is my view

True enough, your point is good. I was just questioning having both an AD search and a coaching search in this small window of time.

Guess I didn't consider that if there's already stuff with the coaches going on behind the scenes, there may be stuff with ADs too.

actually we have a ton of time.

the alternative scenario left little time. What if they wait on the penalties and then have to make change? weeks before season starts.

lot of time if they do it now

I think we have to get the AD situation settled quickly. There looks to be several coaching vacancies; some of these schools already have a headstart on us. If we drag out an AD search, it will put us at a distinct disadvantage.

I figured with a new AD, we'd have the AD search time, plus time to start a coaching search from the very beginning. As is, we (presumably) already have a list of coaches to contact. I was thinking Hamilton might keep his job because time was on his side.

I think I just was overestimating the amount of time required for these things.

Well, overestimating and what LawVol said.

Which is exactly what the Portland Trial Blazers either did or tried to do. I can't remember.

Cannot imagine what having both spots being open at once will do around here.

Fulmerites will naively roar to life, only to be "outraged" later.

Not one whit - lose by 20 to Michigan or win it all - gone very shortly thereafter. Emphasis on very.

Last night you spoke of a coach who you heard has first refusal of job. Killing me to know. Tell me this, is it a guy that has been discussed? The fact Anderson doesn't look to be going to Ark has me guessing.

SOME of what's being written has legs.

Personally, I'm going into tournament mode and am just going to enjoy basketball for awhile and not worry about the other garbage. See you in N Carolina, Go Vols.

Forbes close to getting the Indian Hills job?

Thanks for the update.

Keep us posted, as I am anxious to hear some word from your sources as to the chances of Peyton returning for his senior season.

Fingers crossed.
