Pearl's Already Gone: The Exit Strategy Hypothesis

Has anyone on this board stop to think what happen to Florida when Billy D blinked a few years back on leaving Florida to take a pro job. Recruiting went to hell. They have been fighting to get backto where they were before that espisode. Roy williams has not been able to put NC at the top in 5 years. Changing coaches at UT might be end of basketball for UT for 2 to 3 decades. We are not at the top of high school recruits lists.
All they have to do is look at posts on boards like this one and decide that they want no part of this program!

Let's hope you're joking.

Opinions are like A-HOLES EVERYBODY HAS ONE.All i am saying is no one was bought and no gifts exchanged hands. If that had happened we would have Craft and Selby and our season would have been a little different possibly.Yeah he broke the rules but i don't think that is cheating because Tennessee did'nt benefit from it. GO BIG ORANGE!!!!!!!!!

Asking a high school kid and his family to lie to the NCAA for you isn't cheating?

So if I cheat off of the person sitting next to me on a test and get an F because the person I cheated off of is stupid, I didn't really cheat because it didn't benefit me?

sorry if you guys don't understand me. i just don't think he cheated.if he cheated we would have been as good as UNLV was in the late 80's and early 90's.NOW THAT IS MY DEFENITION OF CHEATING.UNLV benefited from Tarkanian's cheating ways. How has Tennessee benefited from what bruce pearl did.Tennessee did'nt benefit at all from it.Breaking the rules and cheating are not in the same defenition.Book it.He just broke the rules. He did gain an advantage over anyone.

of course he benefited. He got recruits in his home when no other coach in the country could do that. He got extra phone time with recruits that other coaches weren't getting. He got to talk to a recruit in their school when no other coach could do the same.

just because he couldn't close the deal doesn't mean there was no benefit

So if I pull a knife on you in the street and make off with your wallet, and your wallet turns out not to have any money in it, I haven't committed a crime?

attempted bank robbery is still charged as if you had completed the act.

My offering of a response is equally prevented by both forum rules and my inability to speak fluent jibberish.

Absolutely no cheating occurred. If so, we would have had a great season this year. Exceeding the phone calls is not actually cheating, but excessive recruiting. He did not actually lie, but simply was kidding with the investigators. After all, he did tell them the truth later. As far as telling Craft or his father to lie, he was only trying to protect the kid, not cover himself. Just like not recruiting a kid in our back door because he thought it best for the kid to go to Auburn or M. State. Pearl only thinks of others, not himself. I'm sure the NCAA will buy this just like the investigators did.

Three questions seem required to answer your inquiry:

1. How much do you love the victim?
2. Are you really sorry afterwards, to the point of crying?
3. Are you Jewish?

I would accompany Kruger on a commercial plane. We would quietly listen to some Tracey Chapman.

I would personally drive Greg Marshall to Knoxville. We would listen to one of several 80's / 90's hip hop mix tapes that I had specially prepared for the trip.

I would carry Jay Wright on my back, and I would serenade him with an eclectic mix of Broadway showtunes and selections from the Beaches soundtrack.

If we get Wright, I will vote for Obama in the next presidential election, if only to balance the cosmic scales of fortune.

I believe Pearl is gone and Hamilton stays (see previous posts on Haslam). Pearl is the one that lied and systematically cheated (excessive contacts, bump), not Hamilton. Hamilton fixed his mistake in football with Dooley. He will fix basketball as well. Money will talk loudly (see Haslam above) to a strong coach who knows that he can build a legacy here as Pat has done with the Lady Vols.

There are legitimate reasons that the new Pearl contract never got done. Barring a Final Four finish and a one year or less show cause, they can ill afford to hang with him.

That last one is a real reach...

No, it means you were a dumbass for cheating off another dumbass.

I remember Memphis was going to make a "Homerun" hire to...If Pearl leaves forget about UT basketball for a few years...Hope it does not take as long as last time to find a winner!

Brad Stevens would not be qualified to sweep up after the horse carrying the rider who held the envelope containing these three names.

Not even in the conversation.

Pretty big leap of faith there. The jury is still out IMO. He has a playmaker at QB, I give him that.
