Pearl's Already Gone: The Exit Strategy Hypothesis

It defies logic for UT to go through the turmoil of this season just to fire/force him to resign after the season.

I think it's the only thing Tennessee could have done.

Waste a year with Bruce then let him go when you have time to get the guy you want.

The season was screwed from the beginning. If you had fired Pearl in September, Tennessee would still have gone through a cluster of a season.

would be the only upgrade over what we have now, imo.

The OP makes good points, but I still think cbp is back.

1) Mike Anderson would be an upgrade as well
2) if you think Pearl is back at this point, you are in denial

I just don't see a scenario where you would allow Hamilton to hire your next coach given his track record so far. If Pearl is gone, who is contacting coaches on behalf of the AD? Wouldn't Hamilton rather resign then be terminated?

Hamilton won't "make" the hire.

There are an infinite number of intermediaries from each party involved. Some, closer than you think.

I don't see how MH's desire to either resign or be terminated is germaine to the hiring of a new coach. Neither will occur before Pearl's replacement is named.

You have to think Arkansas would want Anderson too.

I think they already made their interest fairly clear, which was followed by Anderson saying he wants to retire at Mizzou. He's driving his price up, so Arky and Tenn should have their work cut out for them if they are both after him

CMA might be on par with CBP, he is not an upgrade, imo.

I would counter #2 with the statement that those who think he will be fired are opportunists employing wishful thinking.

I think an article I read on ESPN was insinuating that Anderson is their primary target.

Ah, hadn't been following the story, but figured as much.

If he cheated the program would have benefited from it.No recruits were bought, no money or gifts exchanged hands. All he did was cook hamburgers & hotdogs for them whoopty do.Yeah it was wrong and he should have told the truth when the ncaa asked him about it.What i'm saying is my defenition of cheating is different from some of you.My defenition of cheating is when you buy a player or give him and his family gifts.Having a cookout and calling and sending text messages is not cheating.Just my opinion.

Kudos!

Great negavol thread just as the team tries to get ready for the Tournament. You could just as well start this thread after we are out of the tournament. This is like having a fifth column within our fanbase. We don't need opponents we have negavols.

so intentionally breaking the rules of your profession and then lying about them is not cheating?

How about Mark Turgeon or Stew Morrill? Danny Manning will want to be next in line at Kansas (though the same could probably be said for Turgeon) and there's no way Wright leaves Nova, especially for the Vols.

Who hired Dooley? Didn't we go through this scenario last season? If Hamilton isn't hiring coaches, then he sure does talk a good game about the process he went through.

He's on my list of people I would like. Originally from Texas though, don't know if he'd be interested in leaving A&M.

It looks much better to go into your next interview to say you resigned for personal reasons rather then say I was terminated. That's what I was thinking.
