Penn State scandal (merged)

There is a safety issue too.You could see fights among Penn State fans break out over this Sat. Outsiders that are mad could travel to the stadium to protest. You could have a huge riot break out or worse.

I don't see that really. Last night was proof Happy Valley wants to cling to good thoughts. Game should be safe. I'll watch. Whole of American sports fans will.

Train wreck television.

Very true, this is a volatile situation. By the way, I think anyone in that program that even reasonably should have known about this should be gone.

Current students do. Past students were burning their degrees. I think there's a real divide in that fanbase.

Dont think it could get violent Saturday at the game? They were arresting people and breaking up fights over this occupy wall st protest and that was over jobs, money, and the economy.Whats going to happen if dads and moms who are off work Sat. decide to show up. Emotions are high and tempers could flare. I've heard some really pissed off people over just the last 2 days.

Tyler Durden is pretty much on point re: JoePa finishing out the season.

WWTDD - Joe Paterno will retire at the end of the season

Interesting point that I haven't seen brought up:
"Mike McQueary is the GA who says he witnessed Jerry Sandusky raping a 10-year-old boy in the shower, and obviously Paterno and the AD believe him because McQueary got promoted to wide receivers coach after the incident and he’s been there ever since. He accused a coach who had been there for 30 years of molesting kids and Paterno didn’t tell him to f*** off so obviously he believed him."

If he didn't think it was an issue, why did he call the president to his house to discuss?

March 3, 2002: Paterno calls Tim Curley, Penn State athletic director, to his home the next day and reports a version of what the grad assistant had said.

The GA did, which is what I was referring to. But have fun defending these guys' actions.

I at 1st defended the GA for only reporting it to Joe Pa because he saw his boss doing something wrong and reported it to his boss. Now that I realize that the GA stuck around after the way Joe Pa handeled the case and is now Joe Pa's recruiting cordinator, I am blown away. Its one huge cover up for their "friend". They all vouched for the guy because they didnt want to hurt the Joe Pa legacy.

If I was the GA and I told Joe Pa of what I saw and if the cops hadnt been called within 24 hrs, I would have been calling a lawyer and looking for a new job.

It looks like to me that the whole town was involved in this cover up. Presidents, Coaches, DA, Trustees, Wives and even Cops all had knowledge, but nobody did anything. All for the sake of the program

If you did see something like that and acted more than McQueary, then good on you.

I just don't understand how most people can put themselves in that kind of hypothetical situation is all. This isn't directed at you specifically, but this "If I would have seen this, I would have done such and such" crap is ridiculous. You didn't, you haven't, it's not your job to judge or do anything about it, shut the hell up.

It would not need to be my job, nor would I need any special permission or obligation to do something about this is I saw it. You should quit trying to project your notion that you may lack the guts to act on others. You do not know what I would do better than I, that is for sure. It seems that we all know what you would do though.

I agree. This entire thing wreaks of a coverup. I'd like to see the governor of Pennsylvania appoint a special prosecutor to handle this thing and let him do what's necessary to bring justice. I'm not sure that the local DA has he pursuit of justice as the motivation.

Listening to a lot of reactions coming out of the PSU community, it's obvious they are overwhelmed and in a state of shock. Not sure how they could not be considering now that a lot of the facts are beginning to publicly surface.

With that said, I have also seen/heard a lot of PSU folks speak in defense of some of the individuals involved in this mess. Heard folks make excuses for McQueary and why they "understood" why he did not immediately intervene and follow-up with contacting law enforcement instead of following some majestic chain of command at the University. Heard one guy state that he believed since McQueary's family knew Sandusky's family that it made sense to this individual that they tried to keep it on the down-low. The guy stated it as if he was astonished that anyone else would not do the same.

It's jaw-dropping the amount of detachment from reality that a lot of these folks are suffering. If they think that any sort of loyalty from man-to-man usurps any questionable activity especially on this level of severity, then they are in denial or dysfunctional beyond my ability to grasp nor understand. These people need to read the grand jury report, and specifically McQueary's testimony on Victim 2. They need to read every single word used to describe those events and understand the magnitude of brutal and degenerate actions that McQueary claims he witnessed.

Regardless of the individual, if you witness what McQueary witnessed per his testimony in the grand jury report, you find a way to protect the child. Get help. Confront the individual. Whatever it takes. If anything, for your own culpability regardless of any sort of distorted and brainwashed view of right and wrong.

What a pitiful and disgusting situation.

Grand Jury Report on Jerry Sandusky - Document - NYTimes.com

If PSU doesn't pull anyone involved in this ordeal off the field before the game on Saturday then they are continuing the enablement of the same attempted cover-up to date. It will be another slap in the face of the children that have already gone through enough hell that were victimized by this monster. Wake up, PSU.
