Penn State scandal (merged)

That kids program was started on 1977. You mean to tell me that sick bastard didn't do anything until 1994?

Sandusky may end up setting the record for serial rapes by a pedophile in American History, yet people knew about it. Incredible.

I wish we could say he's the worst, but I'm afraid there are people out there that are much worse than Sandusky.

There are. Much, much worse. Take the things Sandusky did and apply them to toddlers and infants, who are sometimes the offenders' own children or grandchildren.

I look at this subject-matter every day, guys. It gets a lot worse than Sandusky.

There are probably worse out there, but few who would use the draw of an opportunity for a better life as their means of finding their victims and few who had the celebrity and backing of an institution like PSU that garner parent's trust. What middle school football player wouldn't want to spend time with a Penn State coach? What parent wouldn't want to give their child that opportunity? Mix in the fact that many of the kids came from impoverished and broken homes and it makes his actions even the more devastating.

I just cant get over Joe Paterno letting a guy use the facilities and access to the football complex to victimize and rape little kids for almost 10 years after he knew what happened in 2002.

I know they took his keys. He may have been told not bring kids on campus but even the AD said that wasnt enforceable. He was still a free man. He still had his foundation. He still had an campus office. You do the math...

He knew before that. Do you think Sandusky really wanted to retire? Cover up.

1)Apparently YOU are full of BS..it was YEARS since this happened, hence the "years" reference..Give it a minute and maybe it will sink in...And yes we DO know what was told-An ADULT was found in a sexual situation with a MINOR...And that is a FACT...Keep waitin' and maybe it will finally come to you...
2) Apparently you aren't watching enough legal shows or maybe TOO MANY

BTW, If it was YOUR child involved as the victim maybe you wouldn't be so pompous about protecting Joe Paterno's "rights" and you wouldn't find this so "hilarious"..Or better yet, what if it was YOU who was the victim, then maybe "years" of this being covered up would bother you even more..but probably not since you and your self-righteous thinking find it okay that by not following up when he had the chance, Joe Paterno put EVERY athlete he recruited in an environment of possible sexual abuse..But I'm sure you'll find some assinine way to justify that as well...

JMHFO

It is hilarious, and I'm talking about the feigned outrage of some of the idiots screaming for everybody's head.

The "years" reference was clearly with respect to how much longer it will take to adjudicate this thing, either that or suddenly I have lost the ability to read, or maybe you don't even understand what the hell you said, or are talking about. Yeah, I'll go with that one.

I'm not defending anybody you twit, I'm just leaning on the side of reason. A rush to judgment and all the rash decisions some of the dolts on this board want to make doesn't serve anybody. I still fail to see what damage a prudent wait until the investigation unfolds does to anyone. You don't have all the facts, neither do I, all you want is somebody's skin so you can play your own self righteous avenger. Thats the kind of bassackwards thinking I've come to expect on UT boards. lol

There's always a chance. A chance i'm not willing to take with a 4 year old girl at home.

If it had been your 4 year old girl in the shower, would you still be defending the actions of these people?

His career is not the least tarnished in my eyes. He was a great coach and a great man. He made the mistake of not following up with the AD.

What the hell is going to come out that will make a difference? By his own testimony to the grand jury, Paterno heard an allegation of child rape by a former coach who'd been accused of it before, and failed to alert the authorities. By his own testimony to the grand jury, the GA actually witnessed an act of child rape, and did nothing other than call his dad and tell the football coach. We have enough of their own testimony to know that they're shiatheads and cowards and ought to be fired in disgrace.

great career for sure but before you laud him do some research on what he thought about the University of Tennessee.

By the apathetic responses of some of the posters, its a wonder why these types of horrible acts against innocent children can continue to occur in our society. When grown men are willing to look the other way when something like this happens. It sickens me to know that people care more about ****ing football than these young kids.

Pathetic!!

You can preach "success with honor" for 50 years and have an impeccable career, but ignore child rape once and you throw it all away. He cared more about his program's (and therefore his own) reputation than he did a kid's. Despicable.

This is just the beginning. The campus is flooded with media and a full investigation is about to be launched. You really hope none of these come true, but here are some theories floating about who knew what and why nothing was done:

1) As mentioned above: The whole admin knew everything in '98 and organized the safe "phase him out and maybe it will go away" approach with Zandusky's early-retirement in '99. Giving him full access to campus/facilities makes it look like they celebrated his retirement.

2) Mcqueary was told to keep his mouth shut to the full authorities about the '02 incident, and in exchange he would be given a full time position with the team. JoePa was on shaky ground with the Admin after back-to-back losing seasons and so did not go above them when they did not pursue this.

3) JoePa and the Admin have always known about Zandusky and have just looked the other way to avoid this present situation. And in '04 when Spanier and Curly went to Joe Pa's house to basically fire him, Joe Pa countered with "if you do this, then I will be forced to reveal ________".

4) JoePa really runs the university, has always known everything about Zandusky, and he was calling the shots to not report this b/c he didn't want his program taken down.

5) JoePa was never really told the extent of any of this, since he's been old was naive to how bad all this really was and genuinely thought in his old "out of touch" age that he had done the neccessary things.

just some things floating around today around State College and the campus.
