OK folks. I don’t pay much attention to Memphis Tiger Basketball but a friend texted me and told me I had to hear Penny Hardaway’s post game press conference after they lost to SMU tonight. He completely loses it about half way through when Geoff Calkins asked him a question. He may be fired tonight. It’s on You Tube under Memphis- SMU : Penny Hardaway post game. Enjoy.

You’re probably right. They should because an employee representing a university cannot unload on the media like that in a press conference. But they don’t have the gonads to fire the town hero. He’ll have to quit and I don’t think his ego will let him. So they are stuck. Gee that’s too bad.

Didn't they have the #1 recruiting class last year?

Penny seems like one of those guys that never grew up. He's 50, but he's acts like a petulant 15 year old.

The funny thing is that he's both a better recruiter than Pastner (who was also a great recruiter) and a worse coach. I didn't even think that was possible.

What’s funny is their midmajor program is in an easy conference that is getting easier because no real conference wants them and they still are getting run over by Tulane and SMu 😂😂😂

Yes. We saw it with the spat he tried to pick with Barnes three years ago. Penny is immature and unprofessional.

If I was a Memphis fan, I would be more embarrassed by this, than I would the f-bombs :

"Stop disrespecting me, bro."

Coming from a 50 year old man... that is cringeworthy.

Oh man, if I were in that room I would’ve been licking my chops for a follow up question.

“Penny, you said both teams have young kids on the floor. Shouldn’t you be able to beat the opposing team with your coaching abilities if both teams have young kids on the floor?”

They won't fire him because of F bombs, but they will fire him because he can't coach. He's in a really precarious position as a coach because his strong recruiting actually hurts his job security at this point - he brings in all this talent, but they aren't a very good team. He's a hype man, which is what everybody except Memphis people said when he took the job.

He hasn't even come close to winning an AAC regular season title or conference tournament, much less made an NCAAT run. He hasn't even made an NCAAT.

Every kid on that team would transfer out if Hardaway was fired. Memphis knows that. He’s not getting fired.
