You just described Nashville, Knoxville or any moderately large city, I guess you live in paradise on 20 acres by yourself with no problems, each to their own “lol”
Memphis has crime and corruption and other issues at a level not seen outside of Chicago or NYC or LA. They are consistently ranked as one of the worst cities in the entire country for several reasons

Anecdotal of course, but every person I've ever known from Memphis or West Tennessee has a chip on their shoulder about it. When I was in college, all the West Tennessee kids were that way any time where they were from got brought up. Kind of a "Yeah, I know it isn't cool, but f*** you." Being an East Tennessee person myself (and not even having a dog in the Memphis/Nashville rivalry) I didn't even realize that was a thing until then.
This is true. A big Shelby County sized chip.

Some similarities true but not to the degree of Memphis. Memphis is a class all to itself. Nashville second but Knoxville is not even close. P.S. I live in upper East Tennessee and it is great. Like I said, if you love it, be my guest and “enjoy” all the things I noted above.

Correct, VISITED! After seeing that city I never had a desire to live there! Taxes, crime, poverty, high cost of living, government corruption, etc. Hope you enjoy! To each their own, I guess … lol

Shelby County hardly has a high cost of living. That’s why the suburbs can be very appealing. A couple of the suburbs are ranked top in the state in crime, too.

I wasn’t gonna argue anymore with someone who already has their mind made up, but saying Memphis/Shelby County has a high cost of living is pretty laughable. You can’t even buy a house in the greater Nashville area and the housing market in Knoxville is atrocious.

Why can't you? Most of my extended family is originally from Old Hickory. I have a thundering herd of aunts, uncles and cousins all over greater Nashville. From as far east as Mount Juliet, to as far west as Franklin. None of them are rich, but they manage to live in middle class neighborhoods.

And I’m guessing they probably bought their houses several years ago? He is talking about what real estate has done in metro Nashville in the last couple of years. Real estate in Shelby County has gone up nicely in the last two years. I know because I sold and bought a house last year and both prices were inflated. But according to a number of my friends the price of houses in the Nashville area has exploded. So much so that I have relatives that say they couldn’t afford to move back there now if they wanted to. I had a business associate who moved there from Los Angeles last summer and even he was shocked at the housing prices.

No. That's what I'm talking about as well.

I don’t know you or your family, but if they can afford houses in Franklin or Mt. Juliet in nice middle class neighborhoods, and they bought them within the last 5 years, they’re rich. Me and my wife make six figures and to maintain our quality of life and live in a safe area with good schools and things to do, we’d have to live in Watertown. We could live closer to the metro area if we lived in a crappy school district or a higher crime area, but that’s non-negotiable for us.

It’s insane. Me and my wife briefly looked into moving to the metro Nashville area, but didn’t for reasons I explained in a different post. My in-laws bought their Wilson County home for $175k in the 90s, and now it’s worth half a million, and that’s with no updates or renovations.

We went to a brewery in East Nashville in a rougher area and the houses literally a block away from the projects were over a million dollars.

I know people that work in Nashville and live in southern Kentucky because that’s what they can afford without living in an apartment or sketchy part of town.

Not compared to East Tennessee! None of the things about East,Tennessee I mentioned about Memphis are here, plus lower cost of living! Plus mountains and good food! Don't want to sell too hard, you might just discover I am correct and move here. Never mind Memphis is a great place to live. Boy, I wish I could move there! Oh well , I guess I will just stay here in the cheap housing, low crime rate, mountainous terrain and friendly people who care about each other ... while your area is compared to New York, Chicago and other woke cities.

You must have it all figured out. I’ve been to many parts of TN. Lived in Knoxville for 4 years…In-laws owned a cabin in Gatlinburg for many years (unfortunately a victim of the fires)…have friends in Kingsport…have been to friend’s family in Ooltewah and been to Chattanooga. Long time friends live in Brentwood.

I’ve been from Grundy County outside Chattanooga to Fentress County on the Kentucky border to Decatur County near Jackson and many in between. NW and south central are the two areas that I haven’t spent a whole lot of time but still been to Pickwick and surrounding counties.

But Shelby County does not have a high cost of living. If you want to compare it to the tri-cities or some smaller communities, then fine. But those places also don’t offer the retail and entertainment and restaurant industries that Shelby County offers either. You have to compare like-size communities. I’m pretty sure home prices and costs have gone up in Gatlinburg and even in Sevier County.

I will stay in my suburb of Memphis, too. Top 10 crime rate…top school system in the state…low cost of living yet one of the wealthiest zip codes. Don’t exactly know what you are speaking of.

Speaking of the typical Chip on your shoulder dumbassery. Check out the Tiggers’ message board and see the thread on racist white refs calling fouls due to racism 😂. One poster said it’s basically racist to have three white refs doing a basketball game in this day and age of diversity.
