In fact, he explicitly said that they are investigating USC.

The USC boards are saying it was most likely a meeting about USC. They posted this tweet which I can't find...

Charlotte Observer has an article about NC Secretary of State issuing a search warrant for info about a payment made by agent Gary Wichard for Marvin Austin. This may not add to UNC's situation and I don't consider them top 10 but this seems to be new events on an ongoing story.

sure he could but the difference is what gives some the idea it might be fake

His accounts:
1) verified to be his that he uses very rarely
2) unverified account that is causing a big ruckus and is saying what many people want to hear

smell a bit fishy?

UNC has never been considered a top 10-12 program in football. Not even close. That should have been the first hint, as you even acknowledged it in your post, that this rumor going around has nothing to do with UNC.

De'Anthony Thomas debunks Twitter rumors - CBSSports.com

When reached by phone Thursday morning, Thomas said the Twitter account is not his and that there are no truth to the rumors.

"No," he said flatly when asked if the NCAA had spoken with him.

Two sources also confirmed to CBSSports.com that the NCAA is not looking at Thomas nor have they heard anything about an investigation into Oregon's football team.
