Personal Goals

On November 7th I went for my annual checkup and my doctor told me ”your numbers (cholesterol, BP, etc) are elevated because you're fat. Lose weight so your numbers will follow and you'll see your kids grow up." It's why I'm happy to have found this doctor. Many wouldn't be as candid

So the next day I started walking laps around my neighborhood at 5am every morning. Did that for an few weeks and then decided to run. I'm now up to 3mi every morning before my family is up and do other exercises at the Y 2-3 days a week. We've also gone to a hflc keto diet which has been really easy. So far I'm down 30lbs since my doctor visit and feel much better.

My personal goal is to get down to what they consider a normal bpi (which is still about 40lbs away) by my birthday in May. The real goal is to not let this happen to my body again. Much harder and a lot less fun to take the weight off.

Congrats PJ. I had something similar a couple of years ago where I was nearly 100 pounds overweight and really didn't think about it. Went for my checkup and doctor gave me my labs and basically told me that if I didn't change what I was doing, I would not make it to 50. Cleaned up my diet and started working out 4 days a week and in 6 months I had lost 100 pounds. Have continued living cleaner and working out regularly and dropped another 20 since then. That was 2 years ago and back in August went for my checkup and my cholesterol was cut by over half what it was when I started.

That's great to read BC. So many want to just dance around the issue when people really need a slap to the face

It's the reason I posted what I did since others need to realize it's still possible to make big changes. Just have to choose to start

Pulling for you to do it. I don't know you personally, but your family needs you around as long as possible. Good luck.

My doctor was in an Iranian prison for 8 years in her early 20's. She doesn't pull any punches and I like that.

I found out this week flaxseeds makes hair strong and healthy, plus grow fast.
I bought a bag of flaxseeds from a GNC, and amazing it doesn't need to be refrigerated.
I'll be adding this to my water, and on top of bread.

I could make money as a Uber driver which can help me reach the copyright money for super heroes and supporting cast faster than saving up each week. Plus money for a laser cap, other running shoes plus other things.
It may be the funnest job I can think of, and 1 of the easiest. All that remains currently for me to become a uber driver is a vehicle inspection with that paper of the results uploaded.

Plus with flexible hours since you are your own boss, plus paid every day for all rides as a uber driver you give those are excellent benefits.

Excellent!

I can vouch for the low carb diet, I have dropped 41 since Sept 2. Have not added exercise program yet, just focuses on what goes into the pie hole. BP is back to norm and I feel great. Carbs are killers I think... and they are everywhere... pick anything up at the grocery store and read the label.... 25-28 carbs minimum per serving. So, now I read labels on all food products.

How low carb? Like how many carbs per day?

Nice work! Reading labels had made me realize just how much crap is out there. Another positive is this has made our shopping trips so much easier.

Do you guys drink alcohol? Just curious. Would be tough for me to give it up completely

I had a couple of beers at the bowl game but that's been it. I just don't feel the need since it conflicts with my goals and so far am fine with water, black coffee or unsweet tea (the change in tea might have been the toughest). Alcohol will affect what your body burns for fuel so it could stall weight loss. Must say it's ok in moderation

As for diet soda, I've read the sweeteners can still cause an insulin response which negatively affects weight loss. Plus I've gotten over the desire for sweets and that could trigger it again. My weight issues prove I'm not a trustworthy eater :)

All this is just my opinion based on what I need to accomplish. The more I read the more I realize you have to find a method to work for you

I saw it advertised in a airplane magazine.
I wouldn't say that. If I recall right great results after 6 weeks of use or maybe 8.

If something can help me achieve a goal faster I'll use it as long as it is legal, moral, affordable, and doesn't have large flaws.

My love of craft beer is a big part of my problem currently. I don't keep beer in the house and usually only go out once or twice a week...still an issue.

I need to refine my vodka and tequila pallets and go that road.

You could buy Powerade 0 bottles.

No calories or sugar taste great so I imagine it would satisfy your thirst for something that isn't water, orange juice, etc.

The only way I could think of going out but avoiding alcohol is fast food restaurants which don't sell alcohol.
Otherwise bars and restaurants that aren't fast food are going to have alcohol. Best I can think of is a support person if you decide to go out.

Three liquids enter my body on a regular basis: Water, unsweetened tea, and craft beer. I don't drink sports drinks or soda. It's also not hard to visit a restaurant and not drink, bro. I do it often. When I say "out" I mean my usual beer haunts.

Congrats man.

As somebody who has been trying diets for almost a decade and has kept 30 lbs off for over two years, I will give you my unsolicited diet advice:

If you get tired of keto, just switch to counting calories and get a wide variety of foods that leave you satisfied. Most hard diets don't work in the long run because you get burnt out and go back to your old habits. The trick is to make your new habits into permanent, sustainable habits. Take about a month to count calories, see how your weight responds, and then figure out what your maintenance is. Mine is 2400 calories. As long as I don't eat more than that, I won't gain weight. It's like clockwork. I am never hungry if I do my diet right (except maybe on days where I do cardio, as opposed to lifting).

Figuring out the right food substitutions makes all the difference. I used to eat 120 calorie bread on my sandwiches. Sarah Lee makes WW for 60 calories. I often eat two sandwiches a day, so that's 240 calories saved right there, and I didn't even notice the difference.

Would you wear the laser cap while driving for Uber ? Kind of as a replacement cap like limo drivers wear

Not really because it's 15 minutes a day so if I had the cap I would use it at the house. So I could use it in the morning, afternoon or in the evening.

Only cap I would wear as a uber driver is either of a Sports team, stocking cap, or a super hero cap.
