Petrino to Arkansas

So I guess you'd rather a miserable coach stay with miserable players on a miserable team making EVERYONE even more miserable. I guess your solution is to make a bad situation even more worse.

My contempt for Petrino has nothing to do with finding a solution to the bad situation, because he certainly didn't do anything this year to indicate that he's part of the solution. My contempt is at how he chose to conduct himself in a bad situation.

Just finished listening to Blank's press conference. Blank and Petrino apparently met several times over the weekend to address Petrino's concerns, culminating in a meeting on Monday in which Blank became convinced that those issues were resolved. He told Petrino that he was going to appear twice on national TV that night, and would probably be asked about Petrino's status for next year; what should his response be?

Blank: "He shook my hand and said, "Tell them you've got a coach." The next night, Petrino's doing pig-sooie in Fayetteville. That's not how a man conducts his business.

Do you know everything that happened? Clearly none of us do.

Now we know that as of Monday afternoon Petrino had assured Arthur Blank he was sticking around and Rich McKay had the same assurances from Petrino's agent.

I don't think anybody can blame Petrino for wanting out, or even the fact that he got out when offered the opportunity, but clearly Petrino handled the situation poorly.

For Petrino's sake, I really hope it was a case of getting blown out and possibly the show of support for Michael Vick by Roddy White and Deangelo Hall making him reconsider. Otherwise, he is an incredible liar.

That was like a big slap in the face for Hall and White to do that to Petrino and the Falcons fans. Vick ruined this franchise this year and probably a few years to come and these guys are patronizing him...sick...

And in that case you go back to the man whose hand you shook the day before and say, "I'm sorry, but maybe I can't stay here after all." You don't take the next job and then quit the next day with a quick phone call.

Tommy Tuberville would like to thank Arkansas for giving him the opportunity to kick the hell out of Douchebag Petrino on an annual basis.

IMO loyalty should be a 2 way street, you can't call for coach to be fired when they have their first losing season, and then expect them not to be looking around for a better opportunity.

Each hour that passes even more of the story comes out. Within the past 24 hours, we've gone from the Falcons claiming they were broadsided on this to the fact that Jerry Jones has been talking to Blank for at least a week about this. I still don't buy the line that Petrino guaranteed he was staying. And we still have no clue what all happened between that time and Petrino quitting the next day. This whole McKay cutting off Jones and Arkansas from talking to him could have easily set him off.

Say what you will about Petrino but each day that passes, the Blank and McKay story seems to come unraveled even more.

Ah, so it's Petrino's word against Blank's, and no way we'll ever know exactly what happened. But one of these two men has a reputation for treating people honestly and fairly -- perhaps even TOO fairly at times -- and the other one has a reputation as caring about nothing for himself and going back on his word all the time. Let's see whom most people believe.

I agree with you that the Falcons are a Mickey Mouse organization. But that does not excuse a man from behaving without integrity. If you approve of the way Bobby Petrino handled himself in this situation, then all I can say is that I'm glad I don't know you.

As will I. I don't care if Petrino was in over his head. Don't preach all that stuff then up and go in the middle of the night.

And for the record, I also believe Arkansas will not be any better with Petrino.

So having Nutt would be a lot better?

Petrino will have fans wishing Nutt had never left.

Nutt is not the best of gameday coaches, but the man can find those "diamond in the rough" type players, which is exactly what Arkansas needs. There aren't going to be too many big name recruits going to Arkansas just because it's Arkansas.

Also, look at UL's defenses when Petrino coached there. It doesn't matter what the O does, you can't win a lot of ballgames in the SEC if you don't have a good D. Look at UF's record. For all of Timmy's numbers and the average points scored by UF's offense, they still lost 3 games.

Petrino's not a great recruiter and his defenses always are mediocre. Not a great recipe for success in the SEC.

Anyone think this bad press on the way he left Atlanta will hurt his recruiting? I couldn't play for a guy that preaches unity and team and then quits on his team. What a hypocrite. He must be Nick Saban's long lost brother.

It hasn't hurt Saban

I heard he left Louisville in disarray and then jumped ship in the ATL.

I sat at a bar next to a Louisville alum the night they played West Virginia, and he said that Petrino left the program in such awful shape that Kragthorpe had largely had to clean house. Despite the disappointing season, he said, just about everybody associated with the program was glad to see Petrino out of there.
